8th Annual Cuttyhunk Open (9/24-9/25)

All,

It’s that time of year again. The Cuttyhunk Rod & Gun Club and the Connecticut Surfcasters Association present the 8th Annual Cuttyhunk Open.

Even though I’ve been out of commission with a ruptured Achilles for the past two months, I hope to be back in action for the beach tournament in late September. A tourney flier will follow in the next couple of weeks. The basic rules are as follows:

- All beach fishing
- Four divisions: bass on lure, bait, or fly, and all-tackle bluefish
- 24 hours of fishing (5pm to 5pm)
- Awards cookout to follow

This year’s grand prize will be a guided boat trip with newly-minted local captain Asa Lombard. Asa is presently offering charters for spin/fly casting and fluking. He’ll take you eeling, chunking, or trolling if you want as well. He knows the inshore waters of the Elizabeth Islands as well as anyone.

The tournament will be held on the weekend of September 24th. As always, the competition begins at 5pm of Friday night so you want to get there early on Friday...if not earlier. Please forward annoucement to any interested fisherman.

Accommodations

Travel Options:

The Alert II

Cuttyhunk Water Taxi (John Paul Hunter): 508-789-3250

See you there,

Slater

Here's the flier as promised. I'll be at the White House behind the Corner Store for the weekend. If you're on the island stop by.

We had an awsome time out there. Conditions where very good, the best and most bass taken with wood at first light. There are swells all around the island and alot of big bass.

I met Tlap and Bite me(Rich) There where 70 fishers entered. Toby had 45.5" with wood and I took a 45" on an eel. Bass where fat n healthy lookin. Toby also took the grand prize raffel

Way to go guys, I almost took a ride over today, just not enough time and the surf was a bit large. Caught schoolies and some blues, but nothing like that, but it's only a matter of time. I hope the swell let's up a bit, but this time of year is always a crap shoot for me.
