If you never clean up and push all the lathe shavings onto the floor, over time you will build up a nice layer of padding.... this is very nice on your feet

I use a single bag Jet dust collector around the tools plus have a Jet Air Filtation system hanging from the ceiling in the garage. These get the small stuff out of the air. Dust pan for the rest. I also turn off the heat/air to the house while I am turning as the unit is in the garage where I turn.

BigFish, the dust pan works fine for the larger stuff, its the small stuff that will get to you.
