Nasty out

Just went out for 1.5 hours for the funk of da skunk. It was wicked nasty out! Had my eel fly out about 15ft , then fly back and land behind me . This storm rolled in with the quickness. Around 5pm it was nice and calm with flat water, now the wind is honking and the surf is building rapidly. Anyone else have any luck tonight or gonna give it a shot? I decided to come back home for a cold one and to saute up some nice blackfish my friend gave me earlier today.

I went out in Newport for about an hour. The wind was miserable and it was pitch black. I'd cast out and then after a few cranks of the reel, the Storm Shad would be at the tip of my rod.

I was out last night along the Falmouth shore. Windy as hell right in the face and four footers rolling over the rocks I was standing on. Took a couple gallons in the face from spray but managed four on the needle and missed one hit. They are getting smaller each night. Tide was supposed to be dropping but the wind held the water way up on the beach. When one bigger wave slid my feet back a foot I decided it was time to leave. Oh well, still got plenty of nights and days before they are gone.

I was out somewhere in Falmouth last night also Flap... not pretty out there. Weather looked so nice before I left work! Hopefully the wind dies down a little for the weekend.

FishWebb, it just got worse and worse. I went out at 7:00PM and was home by 8:45 soaking wet even though I wore waders and a Grundens top. You will find fish in small groups till Thanksgiving if you do a search and destroy pattern from east to west then 'round the corner south to north. Lots of places you can pluck a fish or two out of yet.

Got into some schoolies in the canal just as the rain started. Amazing how quickly you forget about the weather when your rod's bending over

Jumped in the water at high tide yesterday. The water was gin clear and visibility was close to 30 feet…too bad there were NO BASS to video…besides two little rats patrolling the wash.

I did manage to get some outstanding footage of a bait ball. One solitary school of fair size sand eels were feeding and performing for my lens. There were two baby bunker that had joined forces with the sand eels, no doubt looking for a little safety in numbers, probably the only survivors of some past bass massacre.

I managed to recruit a pound and a half lobster to portray its “flight or fight” reaction…as if it were about to be inhaled by some hungry cow. I swam around with the lobster in the hopes that when I saw a school of marauding bass, I would have been able to drop the bug into the middle of the school and hopefully watch it get sucked down. But NO! And with no lobster license, I sadly released my newfound friend, not to a boiling pot of water, but back into the rocks.

So much for my hoping to see a bunch of fish getting ready to feed before the storm…not many dives left before I call it a season.

Got to the rock at 8pm at half tide. Wind was blowing to 30 mph in my face. Rain and spray everywhere. I tried the suspending shad off the rock and couldn't cast any distance so I went to a SS needle. That was better but it was still hard to fish. I can't remember fishing in such crazy conditions before and it put me and the gear to the test. The gear, wetsuit, etc., passed ok. I was comfortable and it was confidence building to be so well equipped. The surf was dangerous. I got slammed once on the rock and it staggered me. I thought the bar might be better so I tried that. Yeah, right. Waves were crashing over my head at times. Water constantly up the nose and in the eyes was distracting. I need nose plugs. The water had a faint sewage taste to it which I guess was ripped up weed and bottom. It was a workout just holding position but I was able to fish to some degree. I got up on the right bar rock for a while and that worked ok, when I was not knocked off it. I was able to cover water in front of the bar but nothing. Same thing in the cove and from the casting rock.

Fisheye, I saw some footage a while back showing some lobsters ( shorts) being released from a lobster boat ( I think it was Maine) and as the little bugs were heading back down to the bottom, a couple of huge cows were just swallowing them down. I don't think any of the released bugs made down to safety. Have you ever seen this? Also, anytime you want to fiilm bass on the flats at Monomoy give me a shout. Thanks in advance, Flap.

As I sit here typing, I'm watching snow fall at about 50 miles per hour up here. Last night around 1630, it was icing. I love New England!
