fenwick surf rods
has anybody used the fenwick surf rods are they any good
|
todays schoolie is tomorrows keeper,todays keeper is tomorrows cow,practice catch and release!!!.

When I was younger I worked in a tackle shop and Fenwicks were excellent rods then, and I am sure they still are today. But, I am sure as other will chime in, there are a lot of great rods being made today.... Lamiglass.

Back then, Fenwick blanks and factory rods were made in Washington. Nowadays, they no longer make blanks and their factory rods are made in China.
The rods feel OK but they have cheap guides on them. |

I have thrown most of the Fenwick HMG Series of rods and up to 8 feet they are awesome....the 9' seems a bit light to me
The Fenwick SaltStick Series are great Baot rods

Actually, I love Fenwicks...I use #^&#^&#^&#^&ey's old custom 12' for surf, it throws everything from 1.5 oz to 8.
I have a 9' HMG and it is one of my favorite all around rods.

Blanks are nice but like mike said poor guides and the ferrule is poorly wrapped and tends to crack/split

I hooked 2 of my buddies up with the factory 9 ft saltsticks 2 years ago and they have caught many big fish on them with absolutely no complaints other than when you break them down, they don't go into to 2 even pieces.
But that was 2 years ago and things may have changed.

I had an HMG graphite(brown blank) snap on me while casting a 10z plug. the rod was rated to 4oz. i believe what made the rod so lightweight was its thin walls.
purefishing(fenwick) replaced it hassle/charge free with the newere version which is the black blank, the SaltStick, which seems a bit more sturdy. I think it even has a more solid tip, for added strength.

I bought the 2pc Saltstik casting rod earlier this year. I've had no problems with the rod or guides.
Although, I'd perfer a one peice... I bought the two peice so that the rod would fit in my car, I should have bought a one peice and a truck.
