what would YOU do ???

What would keep you from YOUR Fall run???

...I mean unless you fellas are stinkin rich...or can fish whenever you like....then this doesn't apply to you....( Luckeee bass-studs )

Will you allow the weather, tides, water conditions...wind...etc..(all the elements--excluding the women in your life...cuz they have a way of stopping us sometimes... ) ..from fishing???

...I used to fish with a guy who wouldn't fish unless the conditions were perfect...(to me there is no perfect) but ..anyway, ...

..With the Fall run happening...would you risk staying home because the tide wasn't right, and then not be able to go (due to work/women)..when the tide was right...???

...I mean DangHitt , I go when I can...and its often ..but the conditions are not always there...my free time doesnt always co-exist with the "perfect" conditions...but you bet your bA$$...I'm not staying home on a Saturday night in October because the tide wasn't exactly as I'd like it...

...Bottom line....and I express this to everyone......

ya CAN'T catch fish at home....period!!

...how many times have you heard of people catching fish in July at high noon...from the rocks/shore?...hardly right?...cuz theres no fish? maybe...but maybe also cuz your not there to catch it!!
..there was a guy who landed a 40# this season in July off a dock ...A DOCK!!...and he was just killing time he said.... ...he wasn't killing time.....HE WAS FISHING!!..not home...playing UNO with his ol' lady...

...anyways... ..eyes just curiious...if I was alone on this...seeing as how you fellas seem to know a bit about this fishkin stuff..

and ummmm......that guy I fished with...never did particularly well on those "perfect" nights... ..

I'd like to add one note to that .....before ya get on me back about it.....

Bloo - I have no choice. I work 50 hours or so a week with a 20 hour commute. I get to go when I can go. I've spent half of my time this year in lousy conditions, so I can relate... I have not had a vacation this year (and ain't gonna have one either) and just crap, crap, crap... Never gonna catch fish with a dry line...

I agree with John - Anytime is a good time to fish.

NTL, it is a (very annoying) fact that some spots are just infinately better on one tide or another. IOW, you could be wasting your time on in the incoming when you should be there on the out going and visa-versa.

It's one of those fustrating things of fishing life.

Jaiem - it's more of just when I have the opportunity to go. Between being sick alot since April and hours at work - just not many times to ideal places with ideal conditions - not to mention not straying too far from the truck

I keep buying my lottery tickets, so I can be one of those bass-tards your refer to , but my ship hasn't come in yet. Since I run my own one man business, I'm a little better off than those that have to punch a clock for someone else, that is until I start feeling like I need a vaction . Pro's and cons, but I try to get out once, sometimes twice a week and it's usually about when I have free time, not when the conditions are right. As a boater, the "right" conditions aren't as critical to me, except from a safety point of view.

I only fish when it's 80 - 85 with a sight off shore breeze. I pack a full picnic basket a beach blanket and a nice bottle of red wine.

BLOO, are you sniffing glue AGAIN! You can't be serious....what am I doing on this computer anyway?

If you don't go you'll never know.I don't live near anything.Every time I go fishing it's an expedition.I gotta either just go or try to guess when and where blind.Once I figure out a pattern to the fishing I can be more selective as to when but even then I'm just guessing.Forget where... I know where,When is what counts.

When I can get out I go, the heck with the tides. I do however try to plan my trips ahead a little so I have the conditions on my side.

Perfect Conditions

There are always "Prefered Conditions" for me at certain locations. The way I see it, You can always find somewhere productive to fish no matter of the wind, tide, time. There are certain spots that I will fish on a Honkin' Noreaster', there are certain spots I will fish on a NW wind, and different spots that I will fish on Southerly winds. Now certain tides plus winds will dictate where I will fish...

I think that if you know the area that you fish you cant go wrong. inlets are a great example, fish the incoming at the mouth chase them up stream and work them back out.
I am only able to fish the coast maybe twice a year so come h-ll or high water, rain, sun, winds or whatever hits I am on the water.

..... ..I must say, its nice to hear there are no wussssies here....

...Ken (C.H.)...very true...but still ..some nights are very far-fetched, with work dictating how long you can stay out...and all'...

...but after spending the night with ya, you've proven to me...that I'm not alone..this addiction is a strong one...

..I've tried diluting my habit with an occasional bowling trip or chicken chasing....and sometimes cow tippin'...but at the end of the night I always end up with my rod in my hand .. one way or the other...

..Men, Keep up the good work...time is short, cows are fat...and if you blink too many times ....ITS OVER!!!

What keeps me away. Hmmm

Well most of my fishing is done on instinct. If I don't have the feeling then I don't go or I go and I quit early. I live close enough to the beach that I can tell the conditions. I've also been fishing for so many years, I can take a look at the sky and feel the wind and have a pretty good idea of what's gonna go down.

The other thing that also makes me stop is lightning. Graphite and Lightning are not a good mix. Add to that I'm 100 yards off shore and the highest point is me or the rod, you can see why I call it quits.

The good thing about the reef is as long as the wind is perpindicular, you can find a side to fish.

The one other thing that makes me stop fishing is crowds. The reef isn't too much of a problem because when it's high, only people out there are fishermen. When it's low, you have enough room to cast although it can get tricky if there are fly guys there. But the beach and the fake jetty can be rough. Walkers are all around. Then on the beach, you have dogs, walkers, horses, and little kids. It can get complicated. I try to find a quiet spot but if I can't, I can't and I might as well pack it in.

You can almost always catch crap at a discharge pipe too...

Do you believe that you are THAT SKILLED, that you can fish on INSTINCT?

(I'm looking for an image of that cartoon with the dog crying because it's laughing so hard and rolling around on the ground pounding it's fists in hysterics - if anyone has that please put it here and then send it to me - thanks)

I consider myself to be very AVERAGE in skill and instinct and I've had some incredible fisherman take me under their wings and show me the ropes PLUS having MANY more hours on the water than you - but hey, I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree. I'm truly amazed that after your reading all of these books and complaining that there are never any fish in your area (not that you went very much to find that out on your own) and that you have accumulated that vast amount of knowlege in so few hours on so few trips to so few places that you have the STONES to say your "INSTINCT" can tell you when to stay in or go. I'm impressed. I might just need to turn the keys to the site over to you.

OK - Serious question, do you forget that when you post malarkey like this, people snicker uncontrollably? Or is it just some urge to let the fingers hit which keys they want without thought? Come on - which is it???

I think everyone would be FAR MORE IMPRESSED if you started DOING instead of TYPING it. capiche??

John,

Are the keys those new kind that you have to go back to the dealer to have duplicated with the computer chip in them, or are they the standard GMC truck style?

C'mon Pat just go when you can. You never know when fish show up. You can narrow it down with YEARS of experiance using tides, wind direction, and other variables but getting out as much as possible is the best way. There are times when that instict thing does hit me but I'll be wrong as often as I'm right. Just get out!
