Anyone here work for Gillette?
I just got back from the investor/analyst meeting in NYC.
6,000 layoffs expected from Procter & Gamble/Gillette merger announced this morning.
Most of these probably coming from the Gillette side.

UMMM, yeah. WTF is going on? We just had a meeting about increased production level requirements for the new year. New product ramp up, with new equipment still being installed and the requirement to add more jobs to support the equipment and production levels.
Hopefully the hits come in some of the other divisions.

Check the news, man. Procter & Gamble is acquiring Gillette.
Big news. I had to dodge a gazillion drooling reporters this morning to get to the meeting. Freakin paparazzi.

Well, if the combined company has over 140,000 employees, 6000 layoffs wouldn't be that extreme...unless you're one of them obviously

I'll wager that all, or almost all of the layoffs will be with the headquarters people. P&G has been pretty good in past aquisitions about offerring the potentail layoffs similar jobs in their Cincinatti Hqtrs.

Definately not all corp. Gillette has many holdings worldwide as well in other divisions. South Boston (where I work) is strictly razors and product R&D. Andover is fluids, lotions, deoderants, etc. Razors are also made in Berlin, Poland, Mexico, and Brazil. Beyond that, Gillette also incorporates Duracell Batteries, Oral B Tooth Care products, Braun, and a few other smaller companies.
So..........while it sounds sizable, 6000 isn't a large percentage of the total workforce and hopefully an even smaller impact here in Boston.

ww- Not just boston corporate, also the divisional Hqtrs. And other admin postions. The cuts won't be on the production lines.

Thanks BF but it doesn't help. Actually, I don't feel threatened for anytime in the near future since I'm not in management and razors are not a crossover product that may have to be eliminated. My concern is sometime further down the road, they may decide to move this operation elsewhere.

Sorry BigBo if the joke was in bad taste, just trying to lighten the moment a little. I sure do hope that those layoffs don't happen....Gillette has been a staple in Boston for so long, that would be a shame to lose it.
