eel punt plug

Been wanting to try this for a while. I'll swim it tomorrow...
14" Eel punt attached to the back end of a 3" black over dark blue head. One 00 buckshot centered in the belly and NJT Lefty 1 lip...

deja vu all over again great job, but the hooks look kinda close. maybe push the treble forward or use a bigger tail hook....bigger eye on the tailhook would also give more freedom of movement

what feather do you palmer with? i just got a bunch of schlappin (sp) at the show.

Hook location, etc...

YS< I've been wondering the same thing. I'm inclined to try the bigger tail hook first. I've got some 6/0 254 Eagle Claws that will give me more length. They may be too heavy though. That's the beauty of the split ring isn't it? Maybe it doesn't even need the treble at all?

The palmered hackle is that rooster tail feather that you saw at the Marlborough Show the other day... Schlappen will do the job just fine.

Im not sure I agree with palmering schlappen. the stuff usually has a thick quill and is very webby. The web isnt as much of an issue as the thickness of the quill, its sometimes hard to get the things to wrap around the diameter of the hook shank. Soaking them in water will usually soften them up a bit. For the fluffy look you could also consider palmering some marabou. Tie it in from the tip and wrap to the butt. You can always add another feather if you come up short. Just my opinion

i prefer to use the webby saddle feathers at the bottom of the patch, but you dont get very many of them per patch.
