Holiday Auction for Striped-Bass.Com
Well, since we’re all going to spend the winter here at S-B.com huddled around the stove, I wanted to put one of our prints up for auction to help JohnR keep the lights on, maybe put a little extra wood on the fire and thank him for giving us all a great place to hang out this past year.
Just in time for the Holidays is a digitally restored 1881 photograph of the Graves Point Fishing Club in Newport, RI ~ the bass were caught on a single tide between 6 and 11 AM on August 29, 1881 with a total weight of 495 lbs. The print is sepia-toned and double-matted to 11x14 finished size and framed in Honey Walnut Burl and would be a great addition to your den or man cave. We scanned the frame for the auction, but if you’d like to look at a larger version you can view it at www.theanglersart.com.
The auction will run until 12:00 noon on Wednesday, December 22 and all proceeds will benefit the site. The winner can pay John directly through PayPal or get in touch with him to make arrangements if you don’t currently have a PayPal account. Upon confirmation of payment from John, the winner can pick up the print here in Newport or we’ll arrange to ship it to you.
Thanks for bidding ~ and Best Wishes for a Merry Christmas, a Happy and Healthy New Year ~ and with luck, a day like this one in 1881!
From me and Mrs. Crafty ~ Happy Holidays!

And the Winner is....Duke41
Thank you very much, Duke - that'll sure help keep the lights on at the shack here.
You can pay John directly through PayPal or get in touch with him to make arrangements if you don’t currently have a PayPal account.
Upon confirmation of payment from John, you can pick up the print here in Newport or we’ll arrange to ship it to you. I'll PM you my contact info if you'll do likewise.
Thanks again and Best Wishes to you and yours for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year - you've got a great print to hang over the mantle for the Holidays!

I finally got around to paying John and getting the print. It is awesome. Thanks Crafty. At the bottom of the print it reads” The above catch of striped bass was made on the 20th of August 1881 between 6 am and 11 am. Heavy seas and on a rising tide. This is the best days fishing with rod and reel for striped bass of which I can find any record” Daniel B. Fearing Newport RI Oct 1902.
Seeing that it was the #$%^ Point fishing club. I remember ^^^ Point on Ocean Drive. Now lets go back to 2003 and 2002 where a certain Iron Mike hauled in some Cows. Hmmmmmm. The place has been producing for over 125 years.
If you find it they will come.

Thanks for the kind words, Duke -
Being an ex-Islander, I figured you'd really like it. It's still my favorite image, I never get tired of looking at it and wondering what it must have been like back then.
Too bad you're going to be in Florida on Feb. 19th when the Saltwater Edge is having their Flyfishing and Tackle Fair at the Goat Island Hyatt - we were asked to do an exhibit and will be unveiling the 'X' Project we've been working on for the last six weeks or so - it's a real corker
Anyway, enjoy your print and have a blast on your trip South
Maybe we can go harass some marine life in that 'area' sometime this coming season.
Thanks again!

I just received a framed copy of The Graves Point Fishing Club print. All I can say is WOW!! I put it up on my wall and haven't stopped looking at it! I can't wait to get more prints for my fishing display.
