possibly
bassmaster... as 400 aint much for ram with a through put of 800 ,,,not sure what OS your running but you need some graphical aps to show what percentage memory is being used ....processor....too...where as bus speed isnt
measurable.... via a gui ...so better to determine exactly whats running in the background unseen using task manager , if your experiencing a slow down... also whats geared to run on start up... by right clickin your start button

just trying to tweak this machine
its running 3.4 gig with ht and 2 gig of ram @400mhz the 800 mhz ram is like 300 clams per stick even thogh i havethe mother board that will handle faster.
the graphics card is ati 700 pci express 256meg@400 mhz
my pf useis around 230mb right now but i got stuff on my desktop
i had it down to 166 but need stuff.
whati don knowis if I insall mycrap withoutplaceing a desktop short cut icon if that will make it smoother. i really dont think it matters with this mach though
I set my virtual memory @ 1024 for each processer
2 gisgs i think is optimum and less defragging will be needed
i have 42 processesrunning right now looking in task mngr
wheres Tattoo I know he knows this crap

how many are you running that your not actually using...
like: a screen savers always on ....regardless whether your seeing it...for example...uses allot of memory and CPU power.............

Are you KIDDING!!
With all of that power do you actually see a problem?
You have a smokin' machine and I do not think you will see a difference if you switch to the higher speed RAM unless you actually are running a SUPER app.
Are you using an app that will need more power? XP is tuned for even a super user.....if it aint broke dont fix it.
I do more things to my PC that most people can do such as HTTP, FTP, TFTP, MRTG, VPN, SSH, NNTP, streaming MP3 and gaming and with all of this stuff running I leave the default settings with XP.

I've recently repaired one's computer that would not boot up and this particylar computer had a thick layer of dust on most of the boards and fan. I cleaned everything and it worked.
or
Fdisk, reformat and load your operating system and programs. Then see if you have the same problem.
Upgrading memory would benefit applications that require such speed including image processing programs, mathematical programs like digital fast fourier transform programs or (possibly newer operating system?).

Bassmaster, the 40 gig HD is a good idea.
The new hard drive will be your primary and your old will be your slave. You need to change a jumper connector on the back of the hard drives to signify which is a hard drive and which is a slave.
The grey data cable that goes to your current hard drive may have an additional connector that you attach to the new hard drive along with the power connector.
Once you fdisk, format and load the operating system then move your stuff from the old to the new. Once yuor satisfied that you got all your stuff on the new then delete the old data on your old drive.
Now you can use your old drive for data only and you can transfer the data that you transferd to the old back to the new. So if ever you want to backup your data you only have to copy from only one entire drive.
Don't forget to clean the inside of PC of built up dust and while your at it you can remove the pc cards to clean the gold connections with an eraser. If there is a dirty contact the voltage level of the signal may be lowered to the point were it is at the treshold of being undistinguished between a 1 or a 0.

On the machine that wont boot. switch out the psu with a new one, I got an extra if you need(powersupply)
On your gaming machine, shut off any services you dont need, you didnt say what os you're running so Im assuming windoze based, xp mebbe? If you disable services you really dont need, the machine will run a bit faster for ya. Afterwards benchmark it, with futuremark compare your results to others... and read up on what they did...(search google *futuremark, benchmarking * gaming, overclocking)
Try powerstrip to overclock your video card. Get ram sinks before you do it and I'd recommend better cooling. You'll want better cooling in your machine overall. I dunno how much gaming you do, or how graphic intensive it is.... A cool case is always beter..... Its best to view results for other ppl. running the same card and take the average of what they oc'd their cards to, to avoid that burnt silicon smell, dont wanna overdo it
Check these guys out for reviews and how to's n stuff: www.Virtual-hideout.net
For good prices on ram n stuff check out: www.pricewatch.com
You just have to know EXACTLY what you're looking for and how much you would consider to be a fair deal AFTER you include the shipping fees.
If you ever feel like getting pwned playing UT99-2004 lemme know
