On the history channel this afternoon they had a piece about Pompeii, which had artwork of people in mucho erotic acts (i.e. doing it) and relics like the penis wind chime Those ancient Romans did have a thing for the erotic...

So should this have been censored because it was illicit? I'm some would say it should. Personally I thought it was serious history...

Fact is, sex is how we reproduce, and it shouldn't be something we're afraid of. I personally don't see any harm in a child knowing this, as long as you teach them the responsibility to get through life until they are mature enough to understand...

IMO Violence is far worse for a small child to see than something sexual.. There is so much violence on TV, its no surprise we live in a country where there is so much crime.
I dont get this country.

Six may not be the appropriate time Larry but then again I guess if the info gets to them then maybe someday one of them won't come to you at 16 and say, " Dad, Mary and me had an accident and she is pregnant". I would think that is the worse of the two scenarios.

Why even try.........

Talking

I recently met with the CEO, marketing, and operating folks of the company that makes Trojans. (Church & Dwight, based in Princeton, NJ. Traded on the NYSE, ticker symbol CHD, and a BUY-rated stock at the research firm I work with).

6:00 p.m. may be considered too early..

...but if you look at what kids are doing nowadays...and how soon they are doing it...

...it's not that inappropriate methinks. Do an internet search on news stories about junior high/high school kids about "friends with benefits." (I think there was a huge Newsweek or Time article not too long ago). You will be shocked at the pervasiveness of pre-teen/teen oral sex. (As an aside, Trojan came out with a new mint-flavored condom to address the TEEN oral sex segment).

Plus, if you see all the other ads out there for treatments for things like erectile dysfunction at all hours of the day, Trojan ads aren't entirely out of place.

This is only the beginning folks...according to the Trojan marketing people, you will see more condom ads more frequently (with a "carrot/stick" message), pending approval from the FCC.

2 words.... Milton Academy

not a fan of the condom adds
however

13, 14, 15 y/o are all in the "active" list today.... if you followed the story, the one thing that jumped at me, was the "it's not that uncommon", and a lot of the kids were "like, whats the big deal"...
like it's been said E/D commercials morning, noon, and night.
I have kept an open dialog with both my kids.... like it or not, it's a whole different world, than what we grew up in... communication, and education, and hopefully the kids will decide whats best (I'm not saying right, hopefully they've been taught that)....... if not, at least they know some kind of protection, is better than none.

How about the Ted, Fred, Ed add for metamucil thats on right around dinner time.....

I see both sides of this argument...however, I do see where Bigfish is coming from....watching the game with my 9 year old, and the next thing he is saying is " for that long lasting excitement...try Levitra "..."hey, Jay, what's Levitra?".....I will admit that kids need to know...but not on Sunday afternoon when I'm trying to watch the tube.

bill clintons legacy

is when jr high school and high school kids do a lewinsky....

and hey that wasnt sex..... so said our former president...

and so its not viewed as such by the younger generation...

kids need sex education allot earlier in the game before they

start experimenting on their own at age 13 ,14,15,,, and in many cases

even earlier than that. i think the internet is partly or mostly responsible

for starting a stampede

of pornographic sociological changes within our society.

TV was second to movies until the VCR arrived then it took

over until the internet began to have a greater impact.

Its education ! there are a lot of kids that get pregnant at very young ages ( maybe no one any of us know ) , whose parents are afraid of talking about the S word . yet have no problem to sit down and watch a terminator movie with their kids . sometimes europe is much smarter than we are when it comes to social intelligence .

Do I agree with it being shown so early at night NO and I dont agree with the sexual references on the Disney channel either .

I don't have kids of my own, but when my neices and nephews are over, I make it a point to moniter what they watch. Luckily, they're still at the "kissing is yucky" stage. If you consistantly reinforce proper values, the children will pick up on them. Teens nowadays don't see teen sex as a problem, but it is setting the stage for a nasty moral and self esteem issue as they get older. These same kids that thought it wasn't a problem when they did those things as teens will most likely be the ones trying to force others to do it as young adults. This will generally mean an increase in date rape and abuse. I may sound over zealous, but i've seen that trend happening since I was a kid. Thhe key at this point would be to STAY involved in your child's life.

I wish it was that easy FishermanTim. I think many of us parents try, but no matter how hard most teens will go thru a period where in feeling their maturity and independence they try to distance themselves from their parents. I can go thru an entire week where my conversations with my 15 year old take place in the time she gets home from softball til she quickly chokes down some food and disappears into her room where she's got a PC, a phone, and a TV (with teen shows like The O.C that don't hold much back). She's in her own world. She confides in her mother, just not me. Schools are a help, but maybe part of the problem, I don't know. My girl just got done with about two and a half weeks or rather intensive, according to her, graphic sex ed. The complete how to for teens yearning to get it on. It's no longer, "If your thinking about having sex...", no, now it's "When you have sex, make sure you have protection." I don't like to even think about it happening, but if it takes a condom commercial in the middle of my Sunday dinner to remind some young horney kid who's about to have sex with my daughter that he ought to stop by CVS on the way for a threepack, well so be it. If she asks, I can always make up something so my 9 year old doesn't understand what the commercial is about.
Hey, have a good weekend, folks, I'm going home now to lock my daughter in the basement.

Hey Jimbo,
Remember when it USED to be a stigma to ge an unwed mother?
One (of many) thoughts that kept me out of the doghouse was the idea that if you were a teenage parent, your days (and nights) of fun were gone. You had the resposibility of raising a child.
Now, the boys dump the girls because they don't like having to tote the baby around, or they "dump" the baby on their parents as free babysitting/daycare.
Mind you, I'm not against asking family to watch the child from time to time, but not EVER Friday night so the kids can go out and get involved in the same activities that created the baby in the first place.
If I can influence my nieces and nephews in any way, helping them to be more responsible, then I have succeeded.
