Thats a sweet looking needle. It looks like maybe you sanded just a little of the side of the head on a belt sander ??
I turned a few over the weekend, and mine just look like sticks. I gotta do some more experimenting and find a shape I like...

I dunno, she ain't into fishin, just arts and crafts... and she considers some of this plug stuff artsy craftsy... I have been requested to turn up, seal and prime some blanks for her to paint..... this could be dangerous, or very good she did do some chicken scratch for me before, and one that made it's way to CS's wall of fame... so I'm hopin' for the "very good"
