It Ain't Over 'Til...When?

Talked to Iron Mike tonight, seems there was a blitz of striped bass yesterday morning around 8 at Sachuest Beach at the Surfer's End.

He landed 7 bass up to 24" - but he also said the bait was large, couldn't tell if it was herring or macks, but it was 8 or so inches long. Ya gotta think there might have been something bigger in the mix, too.

I think the Mystic One was hoping Sanny Claus was gonna give him another cow to end the year with - a coupla days before Christmas.

Not like he needs it for the club contest - he already got his 50 -

I caught close to 40 fish today, nothing over 8 lbs, but it is December 23rd . I also witnessed a fish over 30 lbs come ashore, along with another one probably 15 lbs, both guys were throwing chunks. It's only over when I have boat trouble or the snow and ice become a problem.

Well, January is right around the corner and now I'm a little concerned . Ya see, with all of this sweet weather and the stripys takin' there time to get down to the spawning grounds, is this free month or two we've had going to play havoc with getting these girls turned around and back up to us?

Even if the spawning conditions are optimal (salinity, temps, depths, pure luck) I wonder how much the lazy jaunt down the coast would help or hurt in the long run (or am I just needing more sleep ??)...

Mike Lang posted on SOL, earlier in the week, that he had blues to 12# from a western Long Island jetty.

John---I think a lot of these gals ain't gonna leave. They'll find some deep holes in estuarine waters and winter over around here. I think guys will be finding a slew of roe-laden bass come spring.

Yeah, don't feel bad, I never got a phone call either - he was thoroughly chastised for not putting out an all points bulletin.

He originally got the message from Joe at Edwards and he said he never put his plug bag back together so quick.

I think he oughta buy us a round the next time he sees us - yeah, that's the ticket.
