Big Cows in Newburyport??!!

Hello All,

I was hoping to get some good advice on how to get out of the schoolies and catch the big cows in the Merrimack. I have always fished with chunk mackeral or herring on slides, but can't seem to catch anything bigger than 28". Any tips on best time, places and techniques?

Thanx Much

The times that i have fished the river up there i always had good luck with clams, never got large but that was the ticket for me. Did get one marginal keeper on a magnum rapala trolled around the rips and the jetty. Mac pattern, or what they consider mac.

Everything is better on the rocks.

my biggest so far has been a 35" up there like last week on a jig.

today was slow, a couple smalls. once this wind changes it should improve ALOT.

keep fishing, if your catching youll eventually pull out a nice one. might do better off the beach front or reservation if you want a large fish and less smalls.

live to fish. fish to live. rod tips high.
