The Good, the Really Bad and venting

So, yesterday I headed down to a south-facing beach in Falmouth to do some plugging, pre-dawn. Lots of schoolies and a few what looked like bigger fish breaking out a ways. However, they were on small sand eels, no teasers in my bag, no small soft plastics, just some Dannies, pencils, Smack-its...a couple of stupid ones caught but it shoulda been much better. So back I go this morning with the fly rod. Start catching fish right away, mostly small but a couple in the mid-20-inch range. Then I continue walking down the beach to a private beach area, and there on two small jetties are four guys and a woman set up with a bunch of rods, fishing bait. I watch them catch a bass that couldn't have been more than 20 inches...into the bucket it goes. Then another. Now I'm getting pi***d. Call the EPO number that's programmed into my cell phone, which they see me doing...no effect. Get the recorded message, leave my number and continue past them. They glare. I decide to keep my mouth shut as 4 to 1 odds may be good in Vegas. but they suck on the beach. Continue on, trying to not let it ruin my morning, release a few more fish, then head back. Now the wind has come up and the slob's trash (DD crap - is this the worst trash around these days? - potato chip bags, empty cups) is blowing down the beach. Now, the jetties they're standing on BOTH have signs that say No Tresspassing, but my guess is that they can't read English, or maybe can't read at all. So I get to the first jetty and pulled up on the (private) beach is a beautiful little skiff, obviously the pride and joy of the person who lives in the house up above....and the FREAKIN slobs are using the stern mahogany, varnished seat to lay out and cut their stinkin squid!!!! I stop, glare at them, they glare back, the odds haven't improved so I keep walking. #(^*&@#&*(#&!!!!!!!!! This is not a new or unique story, we all know that. But we wonder why we sometimes have a bad image with the non-fishing public.
No call back yet from the EPOs either.
Well, thanks for listening.

i've found out first hand if you call the state police, they will act faster . they will hold them untill the authorities arrive.

Thats horrible. Those are the actions that get places shut down. Who knows who owns that skiff, but imagine of they were on the town council. Soon you would see no-parking signs go up and you will be forced to fish elsewhere because of the actions of a few bad folks. F-ers

how far away was their vehicle from where they were fishing?.....was what i was wondering... then with their license plate written down it will be easier to identify(spot) the POACHERS and VANDALS easier the next time for authorities and /or yourself, or anyone on the board.
Then if you had that info you could've writen a short note to the property owner
and lettem know you were there trying to protect his pride and joy property and perhaps earned permanent permission to fish those two jetties.
Also i would have taken their picture. BUT thats just me.... the property owner might have wished to press charges for the vandalism but with no info provided he might think your the person who was cutting squid on his boat....seeing you walk down that beach months later..or some other person....who wouldnt do such a thing.

I would have been wondering that too, but for a different reason.

By that time, I probably wouldn't have even left the valve stems in an envelope under their wiper blade

I now just bring a plastic shopping bag with me when I fish a particular area near my house and stuff the bag with as much as will fit in it.Most of what I pick up is bait boxes, hook packages, line and of course food/drink related garbage.

No point in calling RIDEM.When or if an officer gets the complaint he has to come from Ft.Adams in Newport. On top of that these guys are driving Dodge Neons and Ford Focuses.I've called the local police and given them the plate #s of the offenders' vehicles.I wait till the offending idiots are leaving as its much safer(for me)that way.I've encountered the same people the following day after I've dimed them out and find more garbage.

What really kills me is the place I'm referring to has a 1/2 dozen garbage cans. You HAVE to walk by them to get to your vehicle and yet I still find garbage on the beach. You don't even have to know how to read to know that those big blue barrels with round tops are garbage cans. There is no excuse not use them other than complete laziness.

One of the problems was there were a few cars parked in the area and there was no way of knowing which one was theirs. Believe me, many evil thoughts crossed my mind about their car. But what would that prove? Would it keep them from doing it again? Maybe in that place, but certainly not in others. Sorry to be cynical, but seeing the response from the police around here on much more serious issues, I kind of doubt they would have done anything. In their defense I'm sure it is a pretty hard job to be a cop on the Cape in the summer. I do wish I had a camera with me though. I wonder what they would have done if I had stood there and started taking lots of pictures? And I'm not trying to sound like a bigot, but the fact is, I don't care what their cuture and tradition is related to the keeping of EVERY fish that's caught, the law is the law, and a freakin slob is a freakin slob. If I am bigoted against anything, its piggish behavior.

Lightbulb high lift-em :o)

i have a high lift jack.....that can easily tip over a car onto its side in minutes.

maybe we should hand these bozo's a picture of that and then they'll get the idea.

of course that would be very illegal to do, but something has to be done to cross the language barrier......as you can see just reading about this has lit my short fuse.

RiRockhound and I are walking out of Black Point one night recently and we run into a young couple walking in. We exchanged pleasantries and continued on. BTW, they were both carrying about 1/2 dozen of those hard Lemonade bottles. 50 feet up the path, yup, you guessed it, the box the bottles came in is laying right in the middle of the path. Bryan yelled back at them to pick up their trash. We did.
It just goes to show that you don't necessarily have to be an ethnic group to be a pig. These 2 were white at snow Caucasians and probably quite well to do. Not fishing just drinking and dirtying up one of the best rough water spots in RI.

No boat, back in the suds.

Idea????????????

Next time call the local p.d. When the desk officer answers tell him you want to report a crime. Give him your location and tell him/her that you will wait for the cruiser to repsond and will gladly point out the criminals. Tell them also you will testify in court. Nobody has to demand a cruiser response. When you put it to them on the phone that you will wait for the officer, you have tied their hands. If the desk officer turns the call over to the C.O. of the shift c.o. balks, tell him/her that you will be in later to check the log and speak with his superior about how busy you said the shift is right now as the reason why he/her won't send a car. I don't know why everyone thinks that local officers cannot enforce these laws. At the very least the officer can take names and the shorts as evidence. He can confiscate any and all equipment as fruits of the crime, including the motor vehicle if they get in the car before the officer shows up.

In my cell phone I have the phone numbers of every S.P. Barracks on the cape and the Bourne and Norwell. Also Bourne P.D., Falmouth and Barnstable. If I travel further down those numbers will be entered also.

One thing you guys and gals have to remember most cops fish too. While they may not look forward to a sunrise walk down the beach on the south side they gotta do it.

If they refuse a letter to the editor of the local rag would change that slow or no response problem real quick. Besides they don't hesitate to ticket your sled for $25.00 and up when they catch you.

It's total B-S.....that stuff is going on everywhere, and it's getting to me as well....was at one of my best spots the other day and you guessed it...trash everywhere....everything from coffee cups to a bomber package...and to top it all off...there was a plastic bag in the mix...took me all of 2 min. to pick it up in their plastic bag and take it out of there. Some people suck so bad.
