Yeh, dress warm...
I've been wondering about that too but I've noticed that the local Rhody cod fleet still needs to run pretty far our for what the consider a decent cod catch for their patrons. I think you may do much better if you traveled to the Scituate/Cohassett/Hull ledges on the Mass South Shore. Cape Cod Bay and points north have had an incredible resurgance of cod available to the regular angler the last couple years. Not something Rhody and points southwest have been luck enough to get...
I haven't been yet but I know they were doing pretty good in regular boats a couple hundred yards from shore back in November. Fisherwoman was doing great up until she put the boat away. I would assume it's even better now - just COLD

Quint - I tried the drop at Scusset last weekend - no joy. I caught a few short pollack at Scituate harbor last summer and hope some bigger fish have moved in. Making due.. good luck.

I'm not that old either and definitely not hardy enough to try it at night. Those shorts were caught during the day, however.

What are you? His Secratary? Do you do his dry cleaning too? - just kidding... Dunno - I might be up for a morning Gut expedition. What time in the am - need details baby!!! I wouldn't want to go in the afternoon between the potential snow and home projects to do - I also may need to make a parts trip too in the afternoon...

Hey leave my Specialist alone! Ok heres the plan low tide is around 9 a.m. I plan on being there around 8 or so. You will need 5 oz. sinkers, fishfinders, hooks and a sand spike. Bait can be clams, sqiud, seaworms or any old macs etc... If the cod are there they are not choosy. You can fish from your vehicle there so don't worry about the cold! Alright who's in?!!!

I'm seriously considering going too. Anyone know what baitshops in that area will be open and at what time in the morning? I can practically guarantee that my local shop is not "Cod Ready"... I'll also need to put a rod/reel together for dunking. Do I really need 5OZ?? I'll be casting my 4/0 senator from shore

John,Tony and I will be at the gut at around 8am. He has ome clams, and there is a bait shack at the pier, but we don't know if it will be open. He said 4 or 5 oz and fishfinder. We are both using spinning gear, but whatever you have see you then.
Striper 1 I am driving a black Expedition, C-Ratt should be in a white taurus.

Neponsett bait and tackle in Dorchester (off the x-way) will probably have clams.

I'm about 70% sure I'll be there. I'll try to bring what I can... Mark, so I guess Darrel is one of the only places with clams, eh? I called Ron's shop but he was out "with clients" I don't know if I want to add 40 minutes to an already 1.5 hour drive. I'll see what I have locally (hey, there's seafood salad in the fridge plus the wife's out of town)

Well - looks like a fell into the 30% bracket - woke up late and realized that I'd be almost two hours later getting there than I wanted to....
Good luck to the rest of you...

Yeah I will go again. My father wants to go also. He said he like that kind of fishing. Tony I will sand those bodies today, and maybe prime them.

I was working on some "new site " stuff until late in the night and when I woke up, I only thought I was a 1/2 hour behind schedule. When the fuzzy brain sysndrome started to dissipate (hey I'm not a morning person, actually not a night person either ) I realized I was 1 & 1/2 hours late....
Sorry to hear of no fish... C-ratt, have you given any thought to the spot on the outside about 2/3 mile before the gut?? I'd tod you where it is but I think you already know the rocks I'm thinkin' about....

I am old enough to remember! South Boston, Castle Island, Early Sixties. Use "Worms" the more they smell the more fish you will catch. Night time fishing is definitely more productive.
Its also colder, dress warm.

Yes John one of my secret striper spots! There are a few other spots around but keeping warm in your vehicle is a priority. The Gut has the deepwater close and fishable from low to high tide.
