Children's Fishing Clinic Looking for Volunteers

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife will be holding a children's fishing clinic at the Sachuest Point Wildlife Refuge in Middletown RI on Saturday Sept 17, 9-12 noon. The Newport County Salt Water Fishing Club has provided volunteers for this event in the past. Our club along with Sachuest Point Wildlife Refuge director Sharon Ware are looking for a few more volunteers. Duties will include helping teach children to tie rigs, bait lines, and cast. We're expecting 20 -25 children and could use a few more volunteers.
This is a great opportunity to teach kids to fish, acquire some community service hours, and get familiar with a very good area to surfcast for stripers, blues, blackfish, scup, etc.
If anyone is interested please send me a PM.
Thanks

DZ

I'll give you a call, D -

Thanks Bryan, Chuck.

Mike,
Maybe you can teach them to avoid bluefish teeth?
Really, would like to have you there if you're able. Kids get the greatest kick out of catching crabs, skates and even seaweed! Important thing is we teach them the "ethics" of fishing - cleaning up litter, releasing undersize fish, etc.

Thanks for all the interest - I'll post more details about the event as it draws closer. We're still working with the refuge director, in the past rods and reels were provided by RI DEM, bait donated by local shops. 20-25 children will be there, normally try and have one volunteer for every 3-4 kids. At other clinics we ran the kids through stations, one to teach plug casting, one to teach bait fishing for scup, fluke etc. Stay tuned.

Notaro - we would very much like you there - being hearing impaired doesn't mean you can't teach.

I know Clammer with all his enthusiasm would also be a very entertaining asset.

Thanks again.

Being a local guy I'd love to get in on this but that weekend I'll be in NH for the race.

If for some reason this clinic is postponed to another weekend you can count me in!
