Question RIGGING TEASERS???

I rig the old fashioned - way dropper loop on 20-30lb flouro leader.

One of my friends asked me if there where other ways so, if a hungry blue say, bit off your teaser & thru your leader, you would still be able to get your $20 custom plug back.

I told him yes, but I dont know any really "good" ways. Every alternative I've used greatly improves the chance of the teaser fouling.

I once tied to a three way swivel - fouled many times.

Any ideas will be greatly apprecaited.

Thanks,

I rig each one individually with a surgeons loop at the end of the teaser leader. I put the loop thru the bottom of my swivel and then put the teaser thru the loop and tighten. I can take off and change teasers without having to re-tie the leader or if my teaser gets bit off, I just put on a new teaser. I usually carry 4 -5 different teasers w/me and can change them in about 30 sec.

I do something similar to what PaulS said, except I tie a 1-2 inch piece of leader to my swivel next to my main leader line, put a surgeon's loop in the end of the 1-2 inch piece, and then tie my red-gills individually with about 6" of leader with a surgeon's loop in them. Then it is just a simple loop to loop connection to put on or take off a teaser. The 1-2 inch piece of leader does not affect my casting/fishing without a teaser on it.

However, I may just try PaulS's way and skip the small piece of leader & see how that works too.

My variation of this is to tie a small dropper loop, about the size of a dime, in my main 36" or so leader, and about 6 inches below the swivel. My droppers are tied on leaders about 8 inches long, with a surgeons loop at the end. I add or remove the droppers with a loop to loop connection, and the small dropper loop on the mnain leader does not bother me casting when I have no teaser on.

I had problems with two leaders/lines off the main swivel after I switch over to fireline. Sometimes they twist or wrap, and I think the fireline was "cutting" the dropper leader off on a fish, or even just casting with the snap of the line. Have not had any problems since using the dropper loop.

Noticed the same thing with powerpro; with mono I tie two seperate leaders to the same 150lb Rosco swivel... on lighter stuff (20-30lb leaders) I use a dropper if I'm trying to be 'stealthy'

I pretie my leaders with palomar to swivel and leave a 8" tag to tie a teaser if I want. Does'nt tangle less I let it roll around in the wash.
