Problem with Abu6500 TCST

I got the reel a few weeks ago and its was working good, casts like a dream, but the drag was sticky, i will be replacing the drag soon.
I took it apart too clean it up, it was a used reel. It barfed all over the place when i took off the side plate. i put it back together, and now the reel wont engage when i turn the handle. I took it apart a dozen times trying to get it right. Any suggestions as to what i did wrong when putting it together? Everything seems right, its nice and tight with no missing/extra parts. I got the split washer on the handle in place, i know that screwed up the reel engaging on my 7000. Thanks for any suggestions.

Everything is better on the rocks.

Season is goin reel good so far, best ever. The fall is starting a bit slow for me, but the best is yet to come. Want to get that reel workin. Are those stock drag washers? Now go catch one of those giant trevelle or whatever they are. And take pics, its ok to spot burn hawaii.

Everything is better on the rocks.

get the schematics for the reel, it's easy to put back together correctly with a picture to follow.

Many times the problem has to do with the freespool button. It normally needs to be held up, I think, when reassembling.

Re: sticky drag, I hear Abu has carbon fiber washers to replace the POS fiber drg washers.

Best regards,
Roger

yeah -those are the POS stock washers.

I bought the reel and then never really put much use to it. for lighter stuff I always went with a spinner. And I had that 7000 that got most use for heavier stuff.

Well fishing in Hawaii is slow to start for me. Haven't got a car yet - basically everything is within 5 miles of my apartment, so it is either walk or bus. The one thing that is tough is finding fishing close by. I am in Waikiki, lots of swimmers and surfers, and no fishing allowed. So I am waiting on a car or a bike to start venturing to other waters.

Been doing a lot of snorkling.....there are some big fish relatively close to shore....looks promising. Now I gotta snorkel where I can fish.

Keep slaying 'em rob
