Since I can't go fishing, I guess I'll post...

Hello everyone, new member here. I've already spent many hours reading inumerable posts and have learned alot and had many laughs. I've only been striper fishing for about 12 years (converted freshwater guy), but I've had a reasonable amount of success, boating a few in the 30 lb class along the way. I'm still searching for the 40+ pounder, and who knows, maybe someday, The Elusive 50+. I fish mostly from Quick's to Noman's, but due to the weather, it looks like I'll be dockbound until at least the middle of the week. I've learned to NOT go through Quick's in a NE or N wind no matter HOW "nice" it might seem in the harbor. Gee whiz... I had tix for today's game too. No fishing AND no baseball.
Shoot me now, please.

Who says you can't go fishing?

Grab a surf rod,put on some waders and a drytop. Then go find a spot that's fishable and have at it!

With all the experienced and dedicated surf fishermen and women on this board, I KNEW someone would suggest that. But as those of you who've been surf fishing forever know, that's something that is often easier said than done. All my time and money over the last dozen years has been invested in boats, boat rods, boat spots, boat methods and techniques. Several years ago, my boat was outta commision for an extended period so I decided to try some shore fishing. Went to WallyMart and picked up a coupla cheapo casting rods. Went to my tackle shop and grabbed some terminle tackle and bait, and headed oit to look for a spot. I worked my way from Fairhaven to the eastard and ended up at the DITCH, of all places. Needless to say, with zero knowledge of surf fishing, and MINUS zero knowledge of ditch fishing, I was not successful at catching fish, although me and the Missus had a wonderful day at the ditch. I learned as much or more about fishing the shore and/or ditch from 4 or 5 hours of reading posts here, than I learned on that day of fishing. Hell, until yesterday, I didn't even know it was CALLED "The Ditch." Nonetheless, BassWipe, just your mere suggestion that I give it another go has got my insides twirlin, and my hands twitchin'! Now WHERE did I stash those surf rods...
