Question Loading SS darters

I have been talking to others on loading SS darters. Use in special conditions. Very rough and big water. What are your thoughts on loading this plug? Front chamber, rear chamber, or both filled or partial ?

Ive never done it, but as a plug builder, i suggest you do the middle. it you do it n the nose or the tail, it will not dart.

The people you have been consulting....do they fish Long Island Sound for the most part? I'm only asking because while a lot CT fishers love to fish Montauk, RI and the ocean side of Long Island, it is not practical for them to do so on a weekday or frequent basis.

I would temper their advice with some from the guys who fish Montauk - where the Super Strike Darter - right out the package - is very, very popular. Most of those guys don't frig with them. To me, the beauty of Super Strike is their batch-to-batch, plug to plug consistancy. You don't have six plugs of the same model, pattern and size on a peg at the store that vary a great deal in weight and with not-so-subtle differences between color and finish.

I seen it done but here is something you should consider....I talk to a lot of people in Montauk and other place sand know how and were they fish.I would put a percentage of those who load their darters at 0.05 %....maybe.....
In addition ,Don Musso ,the maker of SS does not do it.If it was me I would search for other options first.Having darter that digs deeper like the 3 ounce beachasters.Putting a 5/0 on the front of SS will also help in digging in rough water (4/0 is what most guys use after they buy a plug and cut the 3/0 in the front).
If you still want to load....back ,bottom chamber

loading ss darters

Be careful loading ss darters. Balance in darters is more critical than in most other plugs and you could easily ruin the action. I agree with Z if you need a plug to hold in rougher water go to a bottle plug or a large Beachmaster darter.

Thanks for all the advice. I was considering loading after last weekends B.I. trip. Big water and wind. Even the Bottleplugs weren't digging in that water. I guess a few Beachmasters will have to find the bag for the next time!

imho
If your bottle plug is sweeping to fast and not digging you got zero chance of darter digging under same conditions don't care who darter the plug is it
weather like that calls for large bucktails
