I need help. (Xmas gift for wife)
I am at a loss...another rod/reel just won't cut it. A boat is not really a gift for "her" it would be a family thing. I need some real ideas. Gentlemen, what would you get a women (who now makes more money then I do), and who let’s me go fishing whenever I want. If I tell her we really need a new boat or motor or truck, or reel, she goes along with it. She is really wonderful. She likes to fish but lets me go alone when I want too. She is not really into jewelry (thank GOD!!) and likes the outdoors as much as I do. Clothing is nice but I let we let each other buy whatever we need/really want clothing wise, she is not really into fashion either...more a practical and conservative gal. I don't know why she is like this, her sisters (3) are fashion, jewelry and inner city trend icons and they are completely different. It is hard to be around them for very long. It is hard to imagine they are related. I need a nice gift for her (not me). It doesn't have to be super expensive, just nice.
I need ideas!!! She is really into cooking, fly-fishing and her career.
Give me some ideas? If I get a good idea from someone there will be a nice "prize" for the guy who came up with it. Honest.

If you can find time, do something different, just the two of you. A hotel and dinner, maybe. Or a hotel and dinners. Celebrate yourselves. Mrs. Jake and I try to stay at the P-town Inn in the dead of Winter. Nice dinners and wine. Long Point is just outside your room's window. Keno in the bar. And shopping in town. Camden is also very nice. Pick a town, doesn't matter. Nice to remember who your best friend is once in a while.

Take her to Vegas give her $500 and let her have some fun. Shopping or massages, spas, tour the casinos, gamble. Memories last forever.
Edit...bring your kids too, they'll have a blast too.

Get her tickets to a Broadway musical like "Phantom of the Opera" or to see the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Peter Pan bus lines run these specials for about $139 per person. Also you get to see some sites on your own like the statue of liberty, shopping of course, Trump plaza, Empire state building, etc. I believe you could take a train also, but not sure of the price.

She want to rent a relatively cool sister? My wife is available...
Is she really into the island thing? Historical? Art? Island Lore? Fishing? How about chosing a painting, something Islandish, for her office, maybe Janet Messinio??
Or maybe you can talk Eben into making a nice glass Bonito or Squid http://www.ebenhortonglass.com/portfolio.html

I like doing the Tickets to a show or concert thing myself. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra is touring around this time of year....Great Show.
Blue Man Group is also a Good take. Take her into the North End for dinner and then around the corner to Mike's Pastry for desert.
If I'm not Mistaken Le'Miz is in town around xmas time too...another excellent show.

Maybe the digital camera...I've gotten my girl many romantic presents in the past, and noticed while we were at a Halloween patry this year, that she always carries a disposable camera.
Found a mighty nice 8 megapixel that's self contained and fits nicely in a handbag.
Hope she likes it!
Second fiddle is a day of beauty at a spa.
The clincher is a signed picture of the cast of "Perfect Strangers,"
She's got a thing for Balky.

Neiman Marcus Christmas Book 2005
Posted Sep 27, 2005, 1:08 PM ET by Deidre Woollard
I always know it’s really fall when the over-the-top items in the Neiman Marcus Christmas book are announced. This year’s crop includes some amazing items including a prototype of one of our fascinations, the Skycar. Yes, you can get your own Skycar for $3.5 million. The M400 Skycar prototype is a personal vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft that can travel 350+ miles per hour.
Other items include your own classic photobooth ($20,000) and a 2007 Lexus GS 450H, the luxury hybrid available in a limited Neiman Marcus edition of 75 cars ($65,000). There is also your own rideable railroad system with a locomotive, cars, caboose, station, and 1,000 feet of track. The Grand Empire Package includes a steam-style 2-6-2 locomotive with internal combustion engine that runs on propane, two riding gondolas with three cushioned seats, a banquet car with oak decking, and a caboose with interchangeable seat and work crane, a passenger station, switches, and eight signs, including two crossing signs with flashing lights (starting at $200,000). There is a collection of jewels, eight pieces ranging from the 1800s to 2004 and accompanied with a handwritten description of its provenance ($1,200,000). You can also purchase your own adult treehouse getaway(Beginning at $50,000); an IndyCar series simulator with the option to add on a 2006 Indianapolis 500 Mile Race hospitality package for two ($65,000.00 and $75,000); and a levitating aluminum magnet and wood sculpture that sits on an invisible magnetic wave hovering in the air indefinitely. There is also the chance to have Elton John perform for you and 500 guests at a private concert. An Elton John Signature Series Red Piano, designed by Yamaha and with a live performance by Elton John built into it is included. The price of $1.5 million is a donation to the Elton John AIDS foundation.

How about sending her to Chef walter's cooking classes. I think they are in Providence.

Also , Like jewelry or not , if you get her something with diamonds (they love the three stone ring or pendent concept) , she'll be happy.

Does she collect anything? Any hobbies ? Do you have a daughter?
Start a collection for her, check out LLadro on e-bay. Girls love this stuff, It's not cheap but from what I can see it also go's up in value.
This will cover several events (B-day/Xmass/ Wedding Etc) Just keep buying them
You also may want to get something to display them in

You guys are full of great ideas! I think you found what I was looking for!! The coastal Maine weekend thing intrigued me but I wanted something just for her, something that excluded me so I think I will go for a high end cooking class of some kind in the big city and since I always buy her a cookbook to add to her collection, that Linda greenlawn "Recipes from a Very Small Island" seems ideal. (she gave a talk here last year at the local bookstore and I was pissed I missed it. I heard it was great!!)
I know she will enjoy these
THANK YOU (and happy holidays)
We seem to have a 3-way tie for the "prize"
Saltheart and fish4strper....cookclass
and
Lt dan (the LG book)
And the prize is....
Please PM me with your favorite Bernzy plug and your address and I will have one sent to you. (It might take some time but you WILL get it before the spring, you have my word) OR, if you are coming over my way next season, I'll take you surf fishing in my backyard for a night tide, your choice.(can't give you room and board but if you are here on a vacation or fishing trip of some kind I might be able to show you a couple places you haven't fished before)

Done.
Just let me know a week or so before you arrive....If I were you I would wait till you see a springtime post (with the azalea and bright green grass in the background) from me that shows a photo of a decent fish...like below, then you know the bite is really on and it is time to come for a visit. Usually around early June give or take two weeks.
