Fishermans' Waltz

FISHERMAN’S WALTZ

This fly was inspired by the a friend who caught on three consecutive casts in the surf one night this past summer. He hums when he’s happy, and I imagine him humming a Strauss waltz as he was playing these fish.

Hook: Eagle Claw 253/254
Thread: Yellow
Platform: White bucktail
Pillow: White dubbing
Support: White neck hackle, curve side up
Tail: First, white saddle, second, white saddle, third, pearl Flash, fourth, chartreuse yellow saddle, fifth, pearl flash, sixth, chartreuse yellow saddle, seventh, pink Flash, eighth, pink saddle, ninth, silver flash, tenth, chartreuse saddle, eleventh, chartreuse saddle, twelfth, chartreuse saddle
Body: Silver Mylar braid
Collar: Bottom and sides, pink bucktail; top, sparse olive bucktail topped with chartreuse bucktail
Topping: 7 strands of long peacock herl
Cheeks: Three hairs of turquoise bucktail
Eyes: Small white black lace neck hackle topped with jungle cock
