Ball bearing line rollers for Penn SS

Was surfing the net and was looking at one of the more popular penn parts sites and noticed that a ball bearing line roller and improved bail wire kit is now offered for the 6500SS thru 8500SS for $36.

As far as I know the bail and roller on the newer SSm reels is the same as the older SS reels.I could be wrong but from every pic I've seen of the newer reels the bail/roller is the same.If this is the case why wouldn't Penn include such a basic improvement in the newer reels?

So what really are the major differences between a Slammer and the new SSg/SSm reels other than a ball bearing line roller, different spools and cosmetics?

And my curiosity begs the question:Would the new ball bearing line roller work with manual pickup kit for the SS reels?

Penn is starting to confuse the hell out of me.
