Very cool!
It's sad that so many people have been fooled into thinking that chrome plated,multi-bearing, wonder reels imported from the far east are what they need. I don't think that there's any reel currently produced that will last as long as my 30 year old greenies.

Nice article. Brings back memories. I remember using the 700 and Mitchell 302 before the 704. Clammer you have to get rid that bail by going to the manual pick-up conversion kit. Probably some of those kits still available - try Buckos. Only thing we hated about the 704 was the antireverse clicker. I like quiet "reels" and used to fish the 704 with the clicker off - don't ever let go of the handle on a hook set with the Antireverse off - I have years of bloody knuckles and black and blue finger tips from that mistake. Didn't like the 704 torpedo handle - Thumper Andrade would make us all custom handles for the 704 using round knobs from the mitchells. Greatly improved the reel IMHO.

Mike,
This was a gift. CNC machined so the holes are spaced evenly. CNC machined sideplate for a super tight fit so prevent water from getting in, and a laser ingraved striper.
Needless to say, I'm afraid to fish it.

I see a 700 and a 702, but I don't see a 701
The RH crank stainless is the 702. The 701 was a LH crank with a cheaper handle than the 700.

Nice article Mike. I caught my first Striper on my Dads' Mitchell 303. Haven't used anything but Spinfishers since. Someday I'm gonna break my piggybank and buy a VS.
