Benefits of a color gps/chartplotter

What are the benefits over a mono chrom, is it worth buying one? I already have a Garmin 192 mono, was thinking about a color.

The color really makes everything pop out at you. Go to west marine and ogle them, you'll see what I mean.

pfft.. they don't even hold a candle to color..
mine was an older furuno with a 10" screen. i think to get one that big now it's an arm and a leg.

think about a used one? seatronics in glostah has used comercial ones..

for bottom type, rocks sand etc.
even what fish type...
with bass, blues, tuna etc... bieng dark red to dogfish showing green.
i call it TV fishin'.
no contest!
get color, you'll never go back..
with the bronze thru hull too..

Yes Bill, Nav aids appear in their respective colors as they would on a NOAA chart. Color is sweet.

If you're familiar with the waters you'll be boating, save the $$ and stick with the gps you've got, but when it's time to upgrade color is great option.

I think I will stay with the GPS I have now which is a Garmin GPS Map 180.

I am thinking of upgrading the FF from a SeaView 1200 to a color.

What do you guys think of this unit.....

Color is nice for the reasons mentioned. IMO, color is more important in a fishfinder than in a chartplotter. Color in a fishfinder allows you to tell the size of the fish without regard to the size of the mark it makes. I've often moved around an area of feeding fish to zero in on the bigger one's (orange and red on my ff). It has to do with density that is amost impossible to discern with a monochrome screen.

Best regards,
Roger
