What do you want in a site?

What kind of info do you want on a fishing site?

What layout of a site, like a News Portal like MSNBC, CNN, PROJO? Or Something simple?

BIG LETTERS? Or Small Text ?

What else?

And please throw up a ling to some of your other favorite sites (excluding Porn ) that you like as I'm looking for some inspiration....

Thanks!

John

Actually I don't have any forum homepages bookmarked as most don't change daily, so don't feel alone, reeltime has one of the better looking homepages "Do they really have 700 people active in Mid Jan." and so does stripersurf.
A link on the forum page to a sponsors page with all the sponsors might be nice.

Talking

how 'bout a section where it tells the best current spot with all the large gathered there, what bait to use, and what part of the tide to fish.

John, I know you hate "spot burning" but a "sticky" or a forum dedicated to "known" spots possibly for members only with "x" numbers of posts (like the books Frank Dagnault and Gene Borque wrote) might be an idea to consider. Many "regulars" come here to do whatever (show off their lures, talk about their "adventures", fishing or otherwise) but many others come here looking for information to make them better "fisherpersons" (is there anything wrong with that ?). There is another board (basicly dedicated to fly fishing) where the fellow goes someplace every week during the season and lets others know where, when... I'm not sure, but that might be something to think about.. just throwing out suggestions.. hmm

John,
A library might be nice. I'd donate all of my articles. Should keep someone busy for about ten minutes!

John, I think a "Fish Finder"forumormaybe just a post? and how about links to tide and moon charts? and might as well throw in a NOAA link as well. not that I don't think this is the greatest site already, but you asked.

Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot.

I think a site should have the following:
-Major groupings of topics such as general, boating, non-fishing, etc., without having too many.
-Indication of new posts since the last visit - that actually works.
-Ability to jump to new responses within a thread
-E mail notification of response to a thread I’ve participated in.
-A search function that searches the body and/or the title and returns results consistently
-A moderator/head tyrant that is not too full of himself and can manage the direction of threads by a diverse group of anglers.

Since these already exist – nothing more is needed.

I’m sure that it takes much effort, software, technological expertise and sound judgment to make things seem so easy and transparent.

Kudos to you John for a job well done.

Best regards,
Roger

regional sections?? I am from Northern Mass and it seems that most of the topics are from RI and southern Ma.

Tackle repair and reel upgrade forum?

Library section will be a great addition!

Tackle review section? We have many folks here who use all kinds of equipment but lets try to add a review section.

A "HOTTIE" thread that won't get you in trouble !!!!!

Things done at the last possible minute are done with the greatest possible information. Procrastination is, therefore, the most efficient means of doing things.

Some folks have said this but any useful links to weather, tides, etc. Adding too many forums waters down their affect in my opinion. I like having the one forum for striper talk vs regional forums.

As to the latest posts above, always too bad when the direction of the thread goes elsewhere based on the original poster's question(s).
Don't you guys think your comments should be done either via a separate thread or via PMs. Right or wrong, this thread isn't the place to post this stuff.

There's already enough personal negative criticism on the open forum - now there's "secret" stuff too?

To get back to the original thought;
I like a site that is easy to navigate, has what I want and has a lot of good stuff in one place. CNN is agreat layout; Intellicast is a great layout. NOAA (if you get past the first page to the site map has an exceptional layout) I agree that weather links would be cool, or tide links etc..

As far as the hidden forum; do I like it? No, but I think the Mods need a place to discuss, i.e. That Rockhound is causing trouble again, or Spence is jabbering Politics again etc..
When it comes to more personal attacks, well, I have no idea what was/is said on the 'hidden forum' and frankly I dont care. I'm hear to fish and talk fishing, and along the way I have met several people I consider my good friends. the rest of the crap that goes on is just BS anyways
