It was Dad who had to come to class today and get asked questions about what he does and chat with the kids.
It was fun with a lot of questions about work and family and then one little girl says...what to you most like to do for run? I said go fishing. Then she said, you mean you like to kill fish for fun? No, I kill the fish to eat, the rest I let go and it is fun.... This spawned a controversial debate then went into fish pain, the shark tourney and went on and on. When did fishing become contentious past time? Jezzs.

Not to pigeon hole a large group of people, but the earthy, granola eating tree huggers are all over the Vineyard. At least the little lady knows she can ask the question though , and thats allright too.

education isnt just about answering a kid's brain-washed questions.
especially when their only reference is biased. (read peta- kid)

it was a golden opportunity!
more should have been said about going outside for the Outdoor experience, hearing the shore birds, smelling the fresh salt air, watching the sunrise or sunset ....interacting with Nature.... rather than yeah..... after we cut a fishes heads off... and then we eatem...simplicity... (i know you didnt act that way) ...........just an exageration...oke:

but kids have to understand that things have to die for us to eat....whether it be a cow, a chicken, a fish, or a stand of wheat.

This happens in the ocean and on the land in exactly the same way.

people think that fruit are also dead....not so. Most fruit have some seeds (strawberries for example are covered with them)
and within those seeds is life waiting for its chance to Live and grow another plant or an apple tree.

you need to explain that to kids! or that soil is alive and trees are alive ...and that we killed trees to build your house too or to make the paper that you write on or to make your school books.

just my opinion.... but it's not just all about animals....

even though they are the nastiest lawn pest:

Dandelions should be saved....compared to the billions of dollars in chemicals that are applied each year to prevent them from growing
because that pollutes the environment for one thing.

secondly: dandelion leaves (greens) have more vitamins and minerals than most of the food we eat.....and should have been cultivated (developed) more to create a variety that can provide food for people world wide.

in ten years time the military will be essentially -> Robots.
