Cortland QD or Teeny T-series - Striper Talk Striped Bass Fishing, Surfcasting, Boating

Looking for some opinions on either of these lines. The only difference I've found is that the QD has an intermediate running line while the Teeny has a floating running line. I will be using this line from shore in the surf and moving water. Any opinions to sway me in either direction? Or maybe a different manufacturer. Thanks in advance for any help.

tobias, which ever you feel comfortable with! if you really want an internediate-------------AIR-FLO,O,O,-------- havent found any to beat it yet, thats my 2 cents.

Salty - I already have an Airflo intermediate and was looking for a sinking line. I was looking at shooting heads but heard that a full line would be better for a beginner. Improve the skills first. The sinking lines that I was referring to have built in running lines. The Teeny has a floating running line while the Cortland QD has an intermediate runnning line. Any preferences to which would be better. Thanks for the help.

Tobias, In my humble opinion the cortland 350 grain, 24 ft. sinking, shooting head is the all around best sinking type fly line to use for saltwater species in the northeast. This line casts like a dream, has an intermediate running section and sinks very quickly. The only drawback is you cannnot use this line in shallow (under 10 ft.) unless there is major current. Also I prefer a sinking tip to full sink because a full sink can wrap around submerged obsticles in heavy current causing headaches and the possibility of losing a 52 dollar line is greater. Mal

also why would you want a FULL sink line for salt

RUNNING LINE ??????
do you know the difference !
if you notice MOST ALL running lines are BRADED!
FULL lines are COATED,
SHOOTING LINES are also coated, so which is it ?????
CORTLAND did make a (intermediate head line w/a running line attached, still don't know w/they took it of the market, I still have one an it SHOOTS great. "GOOD LUCK GOOD FISHIN"

Salty - The Teeny line is one line, no connections. Same thing with the Cortland QD. Both are approximately 100' long with the Teeny having a 30' shooting head while the Cortland has a 24' shooting head connected to a running line, no loop connections. The only difference between the two are that the Cortland line has an intermediate running line while the Teeny has a floating running line. When I'm talking about a shooting heads I'm referring to lines that come in lengths of about 30' or so that are connected to a running line via loop connection or nail-knot. The reason why I'm shying towards the two lines I mentionned, Teeny or Cortland because the problem of hinging effect when when using a shooting head system with a loop to loop connection. If I'm not explaining myself correctly just let me know and I'll call you at the shop and maybe I can explain myself better over the phone.

I'll give you my 2 cents worth on the issue you raised. The Teeny lines have a fast sinking head with very light wispy running line. I used one for a while and didn't really like it for shore fishing. It tangled too much.

I also have a Cortland QD325 line. It is a fairly fast sinker with an intermediate running line as you mentioned. I don't like this line at all. It tangles to beat the band. Many who use it have cracking problems where the int. running line meets the hi density head.

The Airflo Depthfinder line is a joy to cast but had some durability issues which they may have corrected.

I've been using regular old shooting head setups for over 30 years so I guess I'm partial to them.
