Val Oil

was just mixing a new batch of oil and was curious--will the use of thinner make a differance in the final result or is turpentine a necessity ?

mineral spirits works fine . The jar just gets gummier than it does with turpentine

I have a Dumb Question....Are you supposed to thin Val-oil before using it......I've been using it straight out of the can, as is

Is there a ratio for thinning it.

I'm liking the stuff because I don't have to wait 2 weeks to prime, 24-48 hours after I dunk'em I can Prime'em.

A 60/40 blend of boilde linseed oil and mineral spirits and you can prime in 48 hrs. I soak the AYC for about a minute.

Why is Val oil better?

I used to use the Linseed mix but I had to wait at least a week to prime them, sometimes closer to two as it got colder, or the Primer would stay tacky.

I tried the Val-oil and I could prime in a day, 2 tops and I haven't had the Primer issue since I switched.

50 - 50 mix works well - I used the thinner because I had it and didn't feel like going to the local Homie. Drys quickly and does a good job. Stinks but not a bad as straight turps. will try xylene with the next batch.

I think the mix is 60/40 val/turp.

linseed sux! it takes 4-5 days before you can prime, and after a little while it starts to bleed through the paint.
