Issues

I teach at the Sound School Regional Vocational Aquaculture Center, in New Haven, CT. I also run an after school fishing program.
After school, a couple of students and I headed out to the end of the pier to throw a few plugs (Spring Fever in action). It was cold and windy.
As we headed toward the end, we passed a couple with their young daughter. They were bundled up in their coats and hats, and looked like they were anxious to be somewhere warmer.
As they passed us, staring at us and obviously puzzled by us obsessed nuts, the young girl asked her dad why we were fishing in this weather.
The father's reply was: "those people have issues".
They have no idea.

Continue to diss people in the streets of New Haven and won't be too long before it catches up to you.

HA! that's a good one. Last year I was in the habit of fishing for holdovers in the Charles River. You wouldn't believe all the crazy looks I got and the "are there really fish in there" comments I got.
Meanwhile they are out jogging in friggin' 35 degree weather, give me a break.

One cold friday after Thanksgiving, I was walking in my waders by a bar. A guy having a cig. looked at my, shook his head and said, "you must really hate those fish"

I thought that was witty.

Post it has been my experience

that people who accuse others of having ISSUES are very unstable
themselves and have to justify their personal existance by declaring that others are having this .....repeatedly...

similar to how an alcoholic blindly accuses everyone else for his problems and will never admit that alcohol is really the cause of all his troubles.

I can explain the urge to fish. What I can't explain is the irresistible urge to buy more plugs. Now that issues. And the next two Mass and RI weekends are not good for the mental health of a plug junkie.

You're so right, Jenn. I also love your quote about the grass always greener with polarized sunglasses on.
SBass1, John and Phil both still work here. Mark got sick, doesn't work here anymore. He's in remission at the moment, though.

George- How did that SWAT practice disaster drill go at the Sound School yesterday? Did you get to act as one of the injured or were you at the teacher training? I have some more stuff I can donate for the fishing program.

I hid my ass and those of the students so well that not only did the "gunman" not find us, but it took the SWAT team over an hour after they evacuated the rest of the building to find us.
Yes, more donations would be great, we can always use more fishing stuff.
Thanks,
George

Im surprised they didnt ask you " going fishing ? " or " there are fish in there ? " .

yeah some people just dont get it !

back when I was chunking west haven more than now . people used to look right at me fishing and walk between me and the water and sometimes get caught in the line and blame me . like what else was I doing ? wireless fishing ?

SBass1, I'll tell them "Hi" from you.
As for those idiots expecting wireless fishing, how many of you have had people watch you flyfishing for at least a few minutes, then move right into your backcast?

Some fellow fishermen can be ignorant as well..I was down Oregon beach a couple of years ago and this other dork waded in in front of me where I was casting..Should have bounced a 3 oz kastmaster of his head...

I'm going where I'm going...
