Rod recommendation for a Penn 560 Slammer

Hi all

I neeed a new rod to pair with my 560 and unfortunately I don't have time right now to build one. Had a 9 ft. Penn Guide surf rod that busted and I didn't really care for except for its light weight. Planning on tossing 2-3 oz. with it and not sure wether I would use mono or not.

Thanks much

Question

Welcome to the site. , What's your budget, what kind of terrain are your fishing, 1 piece or two, and where are you located?

Thanks for the welcome neighbor, I'm in Dorchester. My price range is around $200, hopefully less, maybe more if I can sneak it around the fiance. Just started fishing last year so I don't have any specific spots that I frequent but I like beaches and jetties. I would prefer a 2 piece but a 1 piece wouldn't be a problem.

Thanks Again

I can't comment on the Quarrow rods other than that they look schweet. Haven't used one. I would take a morning or afternoon and swing down to M&D's and CMS in New Bedford. You can check out the Quarrow's there and then go to CMS to check out the pre-built custom rods they have. I had a an sw 1088 that I bought from M&Ds' that would be great for what you're are looking to do. Unfortunately it sounds like you don't have time to wait for a rod to be built for you. Since you don't have a rod right now both these options would allow you to get one quickly.

Keeping this stuff from your significant other is truly an art in itself. I have two rods being wrapped right now and my gf doesn't know about one and thinks that the other didn't cost me a dime.

I'll second the 1088, got two with 560's on them, I really like that combo, just right for 2-3 ounces too. I've got 20# fireline on them, works very well.

I hear you guys. Even though I started just last year I built a SW1087, which I got from CMS, that has a Stradic 5000 on it. The reels a hair light for it but that's all I have for now. Ahhh, I think I may have to be patient on this one and build my own or try one of those premade deals at CMS or M & D's. I picked up a 10 ft. St. Croix Triumph that just doesn't feel right. You guys think 10 ft. too long?
