I've turned a bunch of stuff on my Jet mini (no bed extension). Also have the Grizzly 8690. Decent lathe, Jet is better. No problems out of either lathe.

Ditto on the jet. Mine has run without problems for 3 years and runs as smooth and quiet as day 1.

I bought an old shopsmith just for the lathe. It is great. I paid
$250. Well worth it.

I'd get an old used cast iron behemoth, check and grease the bearings in the headstock, put whateer you want on it for a drive and turn away....

No, Lowe's does that.....
It's a medicine cabinet that I keep my tools in. One of the mirrored doors was cracked and they gave it to me.
Besides, I like looking at my pretty face....
