new boat

New to saltwater fishing, been freshwater fishing from ranger bass boat. Will fish long-island sound from southeast CT shore. plan to fish harbours, out to race in decent weather for stripers and blues. Need advice on boat/hull needs. Center console, cuddy. What length 18-22'? Horsepower? Do I need a rough water hull or will a smaller harbour type hull do.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Shif - welcome to S-B...

You need to factor your wants and needs:

Durability
Sea Prowess -v- Stalking the flats
Fuel Consumption costs -v- Realistic Fuel Budget
New -v- Used
Quality -v- Price
Hardcore Fish Boat -v- something more family friendly
No frills -v- All of the toys

Figure where you realistically want to go, slipped or trailered.

I don't get out to the race much but even the blue bird days can get a little rough out there. Also, you need not consider what boat will get you out there in what conditions b ut what boat will best get you back when the weather goes to stink...
