rod wrapping styles?
My girlfriend bought me a rod at a yardsale down the street on a Christmas Tree Farm. It's a 9' rod, 1088, don't know if it's rainshadow, all-star or what. Would any of you know who might have built it, or does everyone wrap them the same? I don't know nice rods, this is the nicest stick I've had. I'm hoping it has some good mojo in it, I know the guy whose name is on it once caught a 62 pounder. (not on this rod! Back before I was a kindy gartner)
Think I'll keep my girlfriend awhile.
And yes, I know the deck needs painting!

Looks like the work of Don Fillman -- It would be a All star or Breakaway blank. I own one of the same, and it has become my favorite!

GF, if it is the same as yours, what would you say for a lure weight range, and what is it's sweet spot? Also, what do you have on it?

All Star = Blank
Breakaway = finished factory rod.

If its about 5 years old its likely a PacBay / sabre 1088. If it just a year or two old , probably a Batsom or Allstar.
Good all around rod in any case.

Could be Don's work, if it's an AllStar, or a Sabre, the chances increase, if it's a Batson, they decrease...

Scotty I have a Abu 6500C trophy on the rod w/40lb power pro. Conventional of course. I can easily use a 1 oz lure and have thrown as high as 3 1/2 oz. stuff in the ditch. Sweet spot seems to be 1 1/2 to 2 1/2. Handled right I can get excellent distance - 300 feet with 2 ounces easily. Actually did so on a measured field.
As a footnote, I put a Abu 7000 pro rocket on that stick just today and it handled it just fine. A little too much reel for my liking though.
Karl - ya hit it right on the head. Don likes the Allstar blanks

Nice diamond wrap. I give credit to the guys who have the patience to sit there and do that.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I knew it was a nice stick and I will take extra good care of it, hoping it takes good care of me!
Now, this is going to sound stupid, but how do I tell if it was meant for a conv. or a spinning reel? I just assumed it was set up for a spinner since it has the exact same (fuji) reel seat that my 8' sealine x spinner has. It has six guides plus the tip. First guide is a little bigger than the one on my daiwa.
I just wonder why Mr. Hadfield didn't wan't it anymore?
