Pogie head, actually the whole front half of the pogie, caught me my biggest fish so far from shore. And lost a bigger one the same way the next night.

I don't know about whole mack's but you can fillet them and fish those. Also I agree Big Stripes love the pogie heads it's what the bluefish leave behind for them. But NIB what's the reason for stomping the head?

Yea the head or the front part as big as u can chuck.
Real short leader like 8" a big ass 9-10/0 hook.Short leader keeps the bait pinned to the bottom no flopping around an helps u cast a little better. The key is fresh an plenty of it.

Stomping on the heads gets the juices flowing. I sometimes even put pogy oil in their little mouths and close them up with a circle hook . Lots of big fish on heads. Fillets of either macks or pogies are killer too.All that exposed flesh is sending out mucho scent .

Heads are all we used to fish in the canal in years past. Drift them. We would chum all the rest and use only the heads. Usually always a big fish too, never really caught small fish on heads. We used to open up fish that we caught and they would be full of heads that people would throw away in the water. P.
