LED Trailer Lights?????
Hi All,
Anyone have any experience with "submersible" LED Trailer lights? I currently have the standard incandescent lights on my new American Trailer that I purchased last season. I reconfigured the lights with wing nuts and snap-together connections so I can remove them before I launch. I was wondering if changing over to LEDs would save me the hassle. Anytime I hear "waterproof" or "submersible" I get very skeptical...especially in salt water.
Anyone want to chime in? Any brand that you would recommend? Success stories...failures?
Thanks
Bob

I have had a set and they were nothing but trouble NOT water tight just a pain.
I went back to the bell type and could not be happier.

I had had good experiences with them. Just clean up the contacts on the harness each year and have had no issues. Contrart to BC mine seemed to remain water tight to date, maybe they were a different brand or I just got lucky.

I have Wesbar standard submersible on my Calkins trailer. I don't unplug or remove anything before launching, I just dunk it. I've replaced three of the sealed lights and two side lights in 7 years.
I've thought about the LED but they are pricey.

I bought a set of LED and launched the boat 3 times and one light is gone!!
I heard here some place that Boaters World or West Marine had a recall for that very reason, But I am not sure which?? Besides I did not save the package and recipet

I have west marine led light and they suck. They are garbage. They are useless. Get the hint!
Seriously I had bad luck with them but others swear by them. If you buy them seal them seams if you can.

The best lights by far are Dry Launch lights by Sierra; http://www.drylaunch.com/ I have 701's and the more modern/square ones are the 702's. The 203's are my clearance lights. Have not had a single problem with these and I have used every light out there and they all blow, some faster than others. The only saving grace with West Marine brand is you can take them back and they will give you new ones no questions asked but who wants to go through that all the time?

I think the best way to attack this problem is to rig up a contraption that alllows youto hang the tail lights on the transom of the boat and remove them prior to launch. I have seen people hook them on and then just toss them in th etruck when launching. you could have the worst lights in the world and this would still work.

I use to do just that!! But I heard so much about LED I thought I would give them a try!
Why is it so hard to make a water proof light?? It baffles the mind!
