I really think that the Bay fish are a lot harder to get. Seems like once they round P Town, they get real reluctant to eat. Fishing out east seems easy by comparision, or is it just me?

Just came back from a long canyon trip. That is a long boat ride when it is rough. 4-6 all day with a 15knot breeze with higher gusts causing a wind chop that made conditions difficult. It was fun to be out there but I could not do that every weekend. (too old for that stuff) I will be rocking for a couple days. Fishing was slow didn't see a lot of life. Still a great adventure. Now, where is my surf rod.....

I went 3 for 4 yesterday, east of chatham(14th). Steady pick but nothing crazy. I heard as many as 30 fish in two days up to 150#s if you end up in the right spot. The wind was starting and the closer you went to the channel the worse it got. On the ledge it was FLAT though. I did see a 300#?? fish solo chasing blues 3 ft out of the water, so there are some bigger fish out there.

When people say SW corner near me they mean the dump, is that where you are headed? If so there are indeed fish there. They are not big but there are a bunch of fish there. On the way to where I was going we blew thru there at 30Knts and saw more life then anyplace. (in hindsight we should have stopped and fished there ) There were fish on the surface and lots of bait.
Or, do you mean sw corner of someplace out east?

Hooper - you're absolutely right. Last season we would actually steam by the jumpers in the bay b/c they are such a pain in the a**, and go troll up on the bank where they eat better. And trolling at chatham is much, much easier than stellwagon. Its a 3+ hour run for me, but sometimes its just plain worth it.

All the days are mashed together. Saturday was brutal out there but they chew on the norwest wind. Sunday was decent. Got fish all day smalls and mediums but not what I wanted. The old man went home happy and very tired. I was out today all over the area. Same results but it was FAC out there which didn't help the scene one bit. the RS is doing the same as usual. I'm going to take a break tomorrow and go Saturday and Sunday ELSEWHERE. I heard a rumor of BIG fish so I want to see for myself.

15 a day? I thought the 5 when we went out was a lot. Why don't you leave those little ba@tards alone and catch a few slob bass with me.

Had to help a friend and could not go but will get out to crab mid week again. Sounds pretty good. Has the bite gone on beyond 7am or is it still early? I am torn between heading south to the dump or east to crab. South has a mix of yellows blues and mahi's but I think you stand a better shot at larger fish east.

I ran across a ton of small fish off of BI the other day but they were tiny and not worth my time. They were cute little guys.

I have not fished CC bay in years but my dad use to alot and he always told me that trolling was difficult in the bay but drifing live bluefish in a chum slick works pretty good for the big ones. A few years back I know he got one that went 875 once in the bay doing that.

(BTW, the bass bite has been pretty damn good nearly all summer here, the best I can recall in a long time both from shore and boat, pretty decent fish too, hope it holds thru the fall)

whell the bite for us has lasted till after 12:00 the last two times we've been east. and we've only left to beat the tide at the ramp or had plans to be back early.
bang a few early, then nothing for a while. time to move on. keep trolling for hours south. bang another one and circle the area, get two more. then nothing for an hour---> time to move on.

i've heard the "early" bite and don't believe it. there's fish there.. they'll eat.
not like we're slaying keepers all day but double digit 50# fish all morning suits me fine..

guys are getting giants in the bay too.

1 giant vs.15 footballs,,, tough call

The bite that was happening at the sw corner earlier this week cooled off considerably. We were there Friday, took 1, 45" fish as soon as we got there and then nothing but monster blues bent on killing all my rigs- I actually had 7 bluefish up on all 7 rigs one time, total cluster. Didn't really see many other hookups other than a couple of guys doin the bluefish thing - that still looks ok for the patient man. Probably go fly my kite later this week.
Goto - feeling sick again?
