Night terrors
I have had some bats almost hit me in the face the past few times night fishing. Kinda freaked me out a little bit. Are they any danger for me? What else is there to worry about while nightfishing. Gets a little spooky out there sometimes heh.

watch out for the boogey man !
bats wont hurt you or get tangled in your hair . they are just out feeding on insects . their radar will keep them from hitting you .

haha yes! Especially when your fishing in the woods and nobody is around and a bat almost hits u in the face. Gets a little freaky. The boogie man came after me one time with some soap on a rope and he kept asking me to pick it up. Whats up with that?

I am scared only of the two legged monsters that may be lurking out there, especially those wanting to help themselves to the items I worked hard to obtain.....

Beware Da Bluffs
Walking along the south side of BI and seeing the chunks of bluff that came down at night while you were fishing under them can get you thinking. Also, some of the two legged creature walking around out here would scare you to death!

Bats are only dangerous if they're rabid. If you get bitten or scratched by one, the safe play is to get the shots.

I caught a bat on the fly rod several years ago. Go to www.connecticutsurfcasters.com , click on the "articles" link, go to "bycatch". Got tangled in my leader.
I agree about those Block Island bluffs. Cuttyhunk has some nasty ones, too.
I had a seal on a dark, foggy night out near Chatham scare the hell out of me. Splashed about 10 feet from me as I was out to my chest in waders, I was back on dry sand in no-time flat.

Must have been scary. Who was swinging the bat at you? Aluminum or wood? Were you in someone's spot?

It's not the bait
At the end of your line
It's the fishing hole
Where all the fish is blind

I had a bat zipping around my head last night. I'd forgotten the bug spray and he was having a great chow once the breeze dropped. At the time I thought, this must be what symbiosis feels like .

A couple of years ago, east of Block, speed jigging bluefish, had a bat middle of the day that keep buzz us on the boat, til I hit it with the tip of the rod. Was a bit spooky the bat just keep coming back with in a foot or two of us til it was banged with the rod tip. Did not kill it, it just moved on after that.

Bats are harmless, they like to come to the vibrations made by the line especially braid. Next time youre out take the lure of your rod and swing the rod back and forth over your head pretty fast till it makes that whislying sound and they'll dive at it. People are the ones you have to worry about
