Late for work but...

It was worth it. Was throwing a metal spoon at the tail end of a peanut bunker blitz when this big girl went airborn after inhaling it. Good battle with 15# test mono. Glad she headed out of the cove I was fishing instead of into the boulder feild. 42 inches and 24 pounds. I love this time of year!

If the boss won't accept that as a good excuse to be late, don't know what would, nice job.

A 42 inch bass should weigh at least 30 pounds and 20 years ago would have weighed in the mid to high 30's. The fact that it weighed only 24 pounds is further evidence that we have a serious baitfish problem. In my opinion, New England stripers are underfed and have been so for the past 5 years.

I'm glad you caught a decent fish on light line. Years ago the same fish probably would have broken 15# test line.

Yeah, that's the kitchen in the Nursing Home I manage. Gave her away to one of my staff.

I thought she was a little light for a fall fish but as has been discussed here many times, fish of that size can vary greatly in weight, really just depends on what it recently ate. I disagree about the light line thing as it all depends on how well you can play the fish. With enough line spooled up and the ability to rock-hop a bit, someone could land a much bigger fish. IMHO

spin

thanks folks...
went back tonight and it was a repeat scene! Mega-blitz with lotsa big fish in the mix. Caught every size from 10 inches up to 38".
Hope the big swell does not kill it the next few days.
