Fish Pic's
Since joining the site and buying a digital shortly afterwards I look back through my folders of fish pics and many of them look like just another nice fish.. some a little longer or shorter but isn't a 30 a 30 is another 30?
I know excellent fresh/salt water guru bass fisherman and after looking through their photo album's, after about the second page I say to myself 'I seen'um all'....and come to find out they say I rarely take pics any more pic's, and I can see why.
This year especialy, I stopped taking pics,(not realy) unless the fish had some kind of significance to me of some sort(ex:bigger then my norm). Kid pics never get old or pics of people who don't get out as much, its just as satisfying for me as it is for them and taking a nice pic of them means alot to me. Do you guys continue to take pics every time you have a successful trip...whats the reason?
I'm not knocking posting fish pics of big or small but I think some of you guys know hat I'm sayin.
I surprized the gallery doesn't have more enteries.

Most times now i just dont bring the camera, its bad luck... The occasional fish i do keep ill take a pic if its a biggun, but 99pcent of the time i let them swim away, without any pics. I dont remember what started it but im very superstitious about bringing the cam with me, so it stays home now...

goose,
good thread
I take pictures when there is significance/or a great memory
back to back thirty pounders
a small fish with a huge gut
keeping a log book and inserting pictures makes that night much more vivid......oh ya...i remember that night

I don't own a digital camara anymore as my last one had to much to drink.
my fish partner has one but i think we only took pics one night this year of some mid 20's ,had some good nights since just never broke out the camara.I like pics that are taken while fishing not the ones taken in the backyard,I also like pics of people fishing even if there are no fish in them.like Jims avatar.

I have a hard time bringing a $400.00 camera into the surf, I tend to go down now and then, and get kinda wet. I do like fish pics but I hardly ever keep a fish unless my wife wants to eat one. I do wish I brought mine to BI last week though.

This is a good thread, I think I'll play ~
My thoughts, since YOU asked
I thinks some people like to remind other people that there are fish out THERE, NOT ON HERE....that are still waiting to be caught. You know there's always people who think big fish can't be caught from a rock or that the season is over when October rolls around. A nice picture of a fish will get them to un-retire that surf-rod one more time or keep those boat guys at bay.
I think there are some people who like to float their own boat by showing off pictures, they like to remind people that they catch fish regularly, AND like to show them off,, time and time again, just in case you missed their last showcase.
Then there are people who just generally like to share experiences or a good story, and of course pictures always help a good story.
Then there are people who don't really CATCH much fish but they post like hell, as if they do.....so they think a picture now and then justifys all their storys,,, you know the guys who post pictures of "30#" fish.....which in reality are just barely over 30"....I always love the guys with scales in their head, not in their hand,,,
Then there's people like me, who don't catch fish.......so there aren't any pictures to show at all
I agree with you Goose, unless it was an incredible battle or a fish out of the norm, or like Jim said, if there was something about the night the fish was caught, a picture definately helps you remember details you may not have written down.
I personally don't mind looking at fish pictures, for whatever reason they were posted. It's nice when the same person puts them in the same thread though, kinda gets old when the same dude has 1/2 dozen threads with just pics. If each thread had a different meaning/story...I wouldn't mind as much, but who da fudge am I anyway???....
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, ...there's also people out there who take pictures so they can edit them for the internet in hope of becoming "Net-Famous" ....

Best investment I made was getting a waterproof camera, a Pentax Optio 10W. Only 200 bucks but takes great 6MP pictures and even video. I don't have to worry about the camera drowning when it gets wet or is underwater. It's also dust/sandproof but not shockproof.
I've had my best catches whenever I bring my camera so it's good luck for me.

The other reason why I think pics are so often posted is that most need the visual before they beleve anyone....thats what it seems like to me anyway

I mostly love taking photos to relive all the great times, places, and nice fish caught with friends. I've got almost a decade of fishing all over New England documented and it's a lot of fun to look back from time to time.
99.9% have never been seen by anyone but the people in the photos.
Keeping the pics interesting is the job of the person wielding the camera. It's not always about the fish.

I always carry my digi camera with me when fishing. I take lots of pics...small fish, big fish.....these are my trophies and they keep me warm all winter long when I look at them! I know my buddies all appreciate the fact I always have my camera....right guys?

Never took a lot of pics to begin with...just now and then. I like to take pictures so sometimes a fish is a good excuse to take pics but mostly I bring the camera and if fishing is good I am not going to spend that time with the camera in my hand!!!!! Will usually only take pics of others when they have a special catch, like their first, biggest, etc. I will admit I had a great experience this summer where I had a family of 9 (that dont fish) and we got into a major bluefish frenzy that went on forever. It was great because THEY all caught fish and were having a blast. I was more than happy to sit back and take lots of pics of them having a blast, the beach, birds, fish so that they can remember the moment better and so I could remember the smiles it put on their faces!
Pics should be for memories...not for bragging and not so someone will believe you when you tell them you caught fish!!!
