I think most, but not all, of the larger fish (20# and bigger) have passed the cape and rhody already. Not to say there won't be some more coming by, but I believe the best fishing has come and gone. You can probably catch dinks (30" and under) until december. Someone prove me wrong, please. I still have a couple tickets left in the good will box.

No, there will be some passing your way. I let a few go yesterday, but my wife just told me she wants more for Sunday dinners.

I would say give it ten more days up here(mass/ri), then bye bye as far as good numbers of large. As for me, I drove home with my waders, stocking cap, and dry top on last night due to the cold. Was gripping the rod above the reel seat on the cork tape because the seat was like a piece of ice. Close to quitting time for me. Maybe a couple day trips if I get bored. I hope you hardy souls kill them in the coming days and weeks. Good luck guys.

They catch big fish in Rhody right through November and into Dec sometimes. I remember this lady caught one about 60 pounds on dec 1 one year not too long ago. I can also remember a 63 pounder in Capt Don's freezer late in the season , maybe Thanksgiving weekend , back about 15 years ago (or more?) when he was at Dunn's corner.

I remember that fish at Capt Don's it was BIG! If i remember he said it was caught on a chunk on East Beach by some guy from NJ. Ten years back my best fishing was always Nov. 1-15 in RI. I remember pulling up to the Andrea after a successful all nighter at Quonny in mid November to see 20-30 guys all hooked up on huge bluefish with herring everywhere. These bluefish were so fat they looked like tuna with many fish 15-16lbs.

Fall run is not in full swing in NJ, trust me on that. With the arrival of some cooler weather and NW winds, some peanut bunkers have ventured out onto the ocean and are getting harrassed by local fish. I've been getting 12# - 17# bluefish every night this week, and I know that when they disappear, then our bass run will be in full swing. I dont start fishing the beaches hard in NJ till last week 3rd week of November, right thru December, thats our run.

The Fall run is yet still wide spread....much like in the Spring where they come in to numerous points along the eastern seaboard at the same time....
methinks they snake in and out with currents and bait all along the watchtower

Its gonna be a matter of someone in the right place , right time at this point..Somewhere, someone is saying its a great fall...Face up to it , the fish just didnt come to the rhody shores in big numbers this fall at all (Large fish), October is just about over... Either get that cow by the 10th of November or have fun with the dinks because the truth is ....Yup, its almost over..This same stuff goes on with the arivals in the spring?? Sooner or later you have to face the music, it is what it is and its just about Nov. folks.....the end is here. Its 14 days and finished...............
(Nope..not home yet F18)
Steve, Thanks for comin yesterday!....

I agree with you guys for the most part, but I think back to a few years ago where Montauk had week long blitzes of huge bass running through in December, snowstorm blitzes on BI in late November, etc.
Not likely, but w/ this weather maybe it could happen
I know I wont be mentally ready to hang it up in mid-November

Yeah I wont hang it up till mid-month, and even then I'll still go out on nice nights until at least turkey Day.

Those spots are not the mainland of rhody...BI may as well be another world....12 miles off the coast is a long way...The other thing that happens is after awhile ...who cares?? the season has been long and tireng and one more fish wont make or break it..

Yup, very true.
I was just thinking of my own situation, where Ill be fishing mid Connecticut late season.
I figure those fish are funneled in, and the bait is either on LI or on the CT side, moving out of our large river systems.
If there are some large moving down the coast, they're either going on the ocean side of LI or through LIS, where theres a good shot of CT guys getting into them.
Besides, Im not tired of fishing yet, the thought of a few more good sized fish out there still gets me excited

Actually, many years it is a single late hard earned bass that makes a season for me.

U got that right.. I hear he has a secret plug too, that fish can't resist, when the oil is upon the water.. notice his time online has dropped waaaay off this week.. I heard from a very good source, he is busy bailing fish, from a secluded location, at the right time and tide, on the Joisey shore......

You guys say this every year at this time. There are still plenty of good fish to go, you just have to suck it up and deal with the cold and a few skunks. Things haven't slowed for me yet... ((((knock on wood)))).... I've been happy with the fall so far... I dunno, it's just the luck of the draw I guess.

Since the winds of fall began blowing cold from the NW, the birds and bait sightings have fallen off quite a bit. Saltyric let a nice 36" fish go right next to me last week, but been small fish for the most part this week. Best day from shore was Oct 1, four real good fish, Big sloppy surf, just before the OTW party. Nothing close since then..... Hoping to get out locally this weekend without freezing my tail off. Then will have to be looking to make a roadtrip.
