Bobby Orr was on the show last night. They did land some big fish. I actually like his show. Now I'm bracing myself for the ridicule on this thread!

Hey,
I think everyone can agree he is an annoying jacka$$ tool. Can't hold a saltwater rod to save his life. But you know that being said he is making what is probably a pretty good living being a tool and going fishing and now with that espn beat thing he is even doing better. Good for him.

All part of his shtick, it works for him and made him some serious dough. I have met him a few times, and that is not (thank god) how he is all the time.. LOL

I turned ZLX on and got the tail end of him. I saw the Bobby Orr show last night too and they did land some really good fish, looked like they were all caught on chunks, you could see a rod on the boat rigged with a white 9 inch sluggo, but you never saw them pick it up.
I also hoped he thanked the charter captain, cause they really are the ones catching the fish. This summer, I went on my first fishing charter ever, up in lake ontario, we landed some monster salmon to like 30 pounds and I'll tell ya, I kind of felt like a cheater reeling those things in, yeah it was a blast, but I feel more of sense of accomplishment landing a schoolie in the surf. At the same time, he doesn't really claim to be a saltwater expert anyway, so I kind of think it's fun watching him goof off, he's almost doing a parady of all the other fishing shows that are sometimes too serious.

I think he broke Bomba rule #1:
"Never try gay!"
All I have to say about that.
Time to go to work...very tired.

I don't think Charlie Moore has ever really claimed to be an expert saltwater guy.

I think he's annoying to watch. He spends WAY TOO MUCH time talking about garbage that has nothing to do about fishing or the guest he's fishing with.
There was one episode where he was fishing for cod, and you can't tell me that he wasn't instructed on how to hold the rod when fishing for big cod. Well, he held the rod like he was fihing for those "monster" 3lb. Largemouths he's always bragging about, and he had a fish yank the rod out of his hands. To top it off, he was laughing about it like it was real funny.
One of my favorite characters is Tred Barta.
He may be a little over the top, but he doesn't pull any schtick.
Two of my favorite shows were him hunting wild boar with a knife and hunting waterfowl with a longbow.
Tred would eat Chuckles alive and spit out the bones.

I know, but I didn't enjoy it.
They have another show on weekend mornings called "Guide House".
They have a group of "for hire" captains down in Matauk(?) that take their client out for stripers. The premise looked good, until it was more like a surreal reality show, and not about the actual fishing.
How disappointing.
If I'm going to sit amd watch a show about fishing, I'd at least like it to be about the fishing, and not about the personality quirks of the captains.

Tred Barta is the man. That is a good example of a show that combines humor and real deal in-the-field action.
Since we are on fishing shows, I want to point out how good "Fishing New England" is. They really do a good job of covering all kinds of local fishing. One complaint though, can somebody tell the dude that does the intro to the show to loosen up? He looks and sounds like a robot! (I hope he's not on this board!)

Charlie Moore is the man and he is laughing all the way to the bank. I thought Havlicek was going to toss him off the boat.

Is it me or do most of those "guides" seem like they don't have a clue? It seem like they only catch blues and albies!

Why would you watch a fishing "show" when you could "fish" instead?

Charlie Moore is painful to watch, I want to kick him in his teeth. No offense to him, just his show personality is annoying. Tred Barta on the other hand is a true outdoorsman, and puts together an entertaining show.

While the eyes of the idol with the iron head are glowing

To the average person, a 45 inch fish IS huge,
I know from taking people out on charters!!!
as for Charlie Moore,
He's anoying, but kids LOVE him, and thats a big thing !!!
Maybe if my club (MSBA) had someone like him running the Striper Swipers, maybe some kids would show up instead of only my kids,
like this year!
