Field turf

If this is artificial turf, why does it look like there is dirt being kicked up on every play?

SKD, look at any replay in slo mo. Whenever someone hits the ground, slides or whatever you can see what looks like dirt flying.

I was just curious what that was.

I didn't even think of it having to be porous for drainage. That makes sense. Thanks.

It's ground up tires , the Pats are the 1st ones with this field turf that is using a new brown colored "pellet" as they call them.
Biggest complaint about the field turf is that up till now the pellets have been black, so instead of grass or mud stains, players are covered in black after a game.

The biggest complaint from the high kids that play on turf is the rubber gets up in the mouth ond nose. Yuk.
Apparently it does get alot hotter on the field in the summer

there small little pieces of rubber soo you have better traction..... if you ever go to a bc hocky or basketball game after or befor the game they leave the football stadium open and you can go on the field its realy cool..... the reason i'm saying this is because if you ever go on there field they have the same stuff... its black rubber..... my highschool is getting it done to there field....... after every game it looks like trash!!! soo hopefully it wil help

It's about time they did something. Natural grass just dosn't hold up in the winter months around here so this is really the only way to have a consistant playing surface.

They used steam rollers to simulate the natural wear of 6-8 weeks of break-in. Just another example of being able to accomplish anything when money is no object.
