charlestown breachway

This is not directed at any spot or person . Now that I have your attention . Im coming from Connecticut to fish RI beaches Friday night . And I was wondering what the rules are as far as parking goes at charlestown or weekapaug breachways . Ill be fishing all night with EELS and dont want any vehicle problems . Can I park and fish in any lot or specific ones . Any info is appreciated very much . I was going to go to the ditch , but Ill be in the cape at the end of the month .
Thanks
Chris

charlestown has just the one parking lot and it big but you have to pay to get in. Its cheap enough. At Weekapaug breach there are now two state parking lots on either side of the breachway right near the main road across from Weekapaug bait and tackle. The parking is free. Chose which side based on the state of the tied. Best is to fish the east side on the first four hours of the outflow before the tied on the outside starts heading heading in again. After the outside tied turns , fish the west side of the breach.

I know what your saying saltheart Thanks alot for the info . I dont mind paying to park as long as I have no cop problems through out the night . Nothing worse than coming back to a spot you know your car was . Ive never been to either breachway so I want to do little scouting this trip as to where to park and next time i may get a driving permit for my 4X4
thanks again

Chris, sometimes you can even get by without paying the attendant at Charlestown lot if you are there late enough. Often when you pull up and say "Just Fishing" - they'll wave you in...

Hey Chris,
Fellow CT angler here, from West Haven. I make the run to Rhody often, hour and 15 piece of cake except at 6 in the morning after no sleep and fishing all night.
But anyway, if you do get the beach permit, the pass entitles you to get into Charlestown for free after the 15th, gets you right to the east side of the breach. You can also get to the west side from the east beach access. And you've already heard about the free parking at Weekapaug. The pass is worth every penny in my opinion. We should make the trip sometime.
Good luck
MZ

Well im back from Charlestown and boy is that a fishy place I bet its better when the WIND isnt blowing
weed all over the place not terrible terrible but more than I like to deal with . Seems you hit big pods of
weed and you hang just long enough to think was that a bump from a striper or week oh set the hook
anyway , weed again . When the tide was going out on the beach side I caught 2 blues small but fiesty .
As #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& noted as the tide dropped out of Ninigrit pond everyone left and then I hooked into 2 LARGE
stripers that I had to release before landing them ( no korkers Slippery ) . When the tide turned I moved
into Ninigret pond and caught a few schoolies Thanks to a local for a lack of a better term who kindly
informed me he had hit 14 schoolies and a keeper . All in all id say it was a success Thanks to you guys I
too probably would have left too figuring the fishing was over if you hadnt told me to stick it out and it will
payoff and it did . I'll have to go back again and again when the wind is slightly less . One other guy was
catching stripers also he had a 33 and a 39 only he never said inches or pounds and I didnt ask . I saw him
fight one I had to get out of his way and it was screaming off line . I was very happy with the outcome .
No charge all though I dont mind paying a small fee if it means keeping a beach or river open to fishing
access . I fished on the east side for the convienence of being near my truck without having to get a
permit . Not many people stayed for any length of time some came through a couple casts and left I wish I
local to ocean fishing . Isnt long isalnd sinking only kidding if it did connecticut would be an ocean state
too . LOL Lets keep it the way it is gives me more chances for road trips . Again Thanks to #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&
saltheart Marc Z and Rhodyred for steering me to the good parking and fishing . Oh yeah I used eels and
smiling bills with a white curly tail and a deadly #^&#^&#^&#^& ( my wifes favorite )
Also had a cop who I guess wanted to know me better . He was in front of me pulled over and then
followed me for a few miles and then left me alone glad im not wanted and my vehicle is all legal . He was
behind me long enough to run my plate and see how Im driving you know us long hairs we must be guilty of
something . LOL
