The new issue has a piece on the state of the world's fisheries in particular the bluefin fishery. Stunning. I knew it was bad, but sometimes it takes some hi resolution photos for it to hit home.

Very disturbing and out of the control of the US who believe it or not is relatively conservation minded...

I know. I read that and it confirmed my worst fears about comm fishing and the state of fisheries department in this country and throughout the world. OK I will say they are dramatizing it to some degree but if they are 1/2 right, we are still dead meat. They need to basically stop comm fishing for most species for at least a decade to get this back on track. They have been overfishing tuna by 4X the sustainable rate and last year took so many Blue fin tuna from the med that they don't think the species can recover.

I have given up and lost all hope in our fisheries departments. IMO MA DMF is just as bad as Europe.

I guess I'm not the only one who reads and notices all the bad stuff on the state of the fisheries. I had picked up the National Fisherman the other day and it was as bleak as usual.

In time, I just may be one of those guys who will always say " . . . when I was younger . . . " and talk about how there used to be fish and what I used to catch back in the day.

If all fails, there will always be dogfish/sand sharks to catch, right?

What I didn't like was the fact that the entire article had nothing but negative things to say about fisheries worldwide. I would have liked to hear about some improvements that have been made. If only minimal changes.
I'm tired of hearing about the end of the world.
