Question Your Biggest Fish - Luck, Experience or Both

I attended one of Crazy Albertos seminars. He caught his IGFA record (46 lbs.) on 8 lb. test while trying to catch weakfish in the Shinnecock Canal. Now his experience entered into his ability to catch the fish, but luck also played into it because he wasn't targeting large bass and a canal lock remained closed that allowed him to get to land the fish. The lock opened a short time thereafter.

What was your experience? Luck, experience or both?

luck, experience, and putting your time in - logging countless hours on the quest for a trophy. for me it was 5 years ago - we were camping in truro and fishing the shore pretty hard for a few days. the bluefish bite was incredible , but the bass was a slow pick w/ no real size. on the last day there i spotted some shadows in the surf in front of a massive blues blitz. luck had me in that specific spot, we had just came back from nelsons after restocking - the blues had taken thier tool on our tackle boxes, and experience told me this time of year (it was mid oct) in this neck of the woods was a good idea. i caught 2 nice fish back to back, 46 & 43 #s. i remember saying to myself calm down and take your time, let them her run and tire out. i was shaking like a leaf w/ all the adrenaline. i know there are alot of bigger fish caught but on that day everything went right for me and all was good. regards, paul

I've always said being in the right place at the right time is paramount. Where you consider being in that right place as luck or experience or is up to you.
