DateFish!!

Finally, after a few years of talking with Saltheart on fishing boards such as these, meeting him at shows, and occasionally along the beach, I finally had the opportunity to fish with Saltheart last night. With a low supply of eels (the local shops were out) and the remnants of TS Gordon coming down, we hit one of my favorite, semi-hidden, kinda-private, "Prime Spots" to toss eels at cruising bass. Wind was SE 10-15, almost in our faces, and gusting higher at times in a fast rain. The tides at this spot were not the best, as mid-tide incoming or outgoing works best but low has held some nice fish in recent weeks. So we decided to give some eels a chance at their freedom.

We were talking about various things while casting eels; fishing gear, rod building, fishing places, "ISPY", and then Salty mentions that he'd like to catch a "Date Fish". Asking for an explanation, he tells me that if gets a nice fish for the table, she'll cook it!!! Sounds like a fair trade and one my wife allows with me (she's a great cook)......

Well three hours later, one hit and no takes for me, Saltheart gets his "DateFish", a very nice, 41-42 inch, 26 pound (weighed ) bass. Nice fish... But I'll let Saltheart tell the rest about catching that fish later, as it was landed by the skin of its teeth, er - uh, lip...

Unfortunately, my new (bleep) FLASHLESS digital camera did not take recognizeable shots... so I'll see if I can something to get them up on the site but it is not likely ... But nice fish!!!...and Mike, thanks for the jigheads...

RE:DateFish!!

Semi-secret spot? Are you that kind of heavy-set guy with brown hair and facial hair? You drive an automobile and fish with fishing rods? You also wear a red hat and a red shirt. Well John R., I know where you fish. It's not a secret anymore!

Hey Hey Hey I dropped 40 lbs in about 7 months. I went from like 40 pants down to 33s. I said "kind of" anyways.

RE:DateFish!!

Saltheart & John,

Sorry I couldn't come thru with some additional eels last night. After 10 minutes of getting ready, I jumped back in the car to go to Beltsan's Bait & Tackle. With all the traffic, it took me over 45 minutes and I arrived at 7:10. Lights out, door locked, nobody home.

I decided that after trying three shops with no success and considering that some idiot teeny-bop pulled out in front of me while I was at 45mph, about 30 feet in front of me, and then stopped and sat like a deer in headlights... I decided it just wasn't my night. Luckily, I narrowly missed trashing my car and ridding the world of one more rotten, rude, and clueless Massachusetts driver..yes, offense intended... though she will definitely kill someone at some point. There's learning to drive and then there's just being stupid... stupid people generally will always be stupid.

Sorry, a little of the subject there. Anyways, I just cruised on back home. John, tried your cell phone, but you didn't answer.

So, I'm probably headed over tonight. If I get home at 6pm, I'll have plenty of time to get over to Beltsan's.

Sorry I missed fishing with you Saltheart... Later.

RE:DateFish!!

Greg, I figured as much. I know he was itching to get out as he had a 44pounder weighed in that day, taken from a boat but close enough to have been taken from shore... No problem, you missed some snotty conditions out there, but it was a nice night other than the very few hits and only one fish (but a nice fish it was ). It was raining fairly hard at times but maybe five minutes after leaving the spot, the skys just exploded with rain... Nasty...
