To hate cell phones...

My wife was on her way home from work last thursday, stopped at a red light, a noodlehead in mercedes 2 seater runs in to the back of her 1993 blazer, the same blazer she was trading in on FRIDAY!!! turns out the space monkey was yapping on the cell phone, never saw her or the light! he hit her so hard, she was pushed into another vehicle and spun her around 180 degree's..

thankfull she was not injured and the dealer waived the trade in and she now has her new vehicle.. IMHO, if they ban cell phones while driveing today... it's one day too late!

I'm glad she is alright. when you knock an axel loose it's a pretty good hit.

Unfortunately, most drivers of "luxury vehicles" like Mercedes, Lexus, and BMW's tend to have the "I'm better than you" attitude.
I would've gone to the hospital (on his insurance) and see what his policy has for injury stipulation.
I'm also a firm believer that doing anything else while driving too much. How many accidents are caused by (but not reported as) "driver distraction"? Distraction can be cell phone use, eating, drinking, reading, texting, or putting on makeup. It infuriates me when these idoits CAUSE and accident, and blame it on the person(s) they hit saying "They should have seen me coming."
I say nail this guy for all you can LEGALLY and teach him a lesson where it will hurt him most.....in his pocket!

Bummer RF9. Glad your wife is ok, she really took a hard hit.
She should get checked out by a doctor though, as whiplash problems could show up later, and you may want it documented in case there are problems down the road.
Not ripping anybody off, just protecting yourself aganinst possible future med expenses.

thanks guy's I took her to the hospital and got her checked out, she wouldnt go in the ambulance, just a contusion on her right knee....

She didnt always wear her seat belt... she just happend to have it on... she's a poster child for seat belt safty now, she knows it saved her a serious injury...

From a Firefighters point of view I personally check the were abouts of the drivers cell phone as soon as is practical when I get to a scene. You'd be surprised how man phones are up on the dash near the windshield's or on the floor still opened and connected to a call.

And now the sad truth about why cell phones will never be illegal behind the wheel. Most law makers use there phones while driving and they wouldn't want to make a law that would mess it up for them.
( I know a bit about law makers.

Hopefully we adopt the hands free law that CT and NY have now. While it is not perfect, having a headset vs. hand on phone pressed to ear is much safer.

I'd recommend Bluetooth type wireless headsets to all who HAVE to talk on their cell while driving.

what justplugit said... i got rear ended by a flatbed sod truck fully loaded....
not a real hard hit like what your wife got [ from the photo]
and years later my neck started to have serious problems.
So definately have xrays of her neck done.... if she is even-> sore.

it'll save you allot of headaches later.

First glad there was no serious injury.

I am on the fence with the cell phone thing. I find that i can drive just fine if I happen to be on the phone, but then again I'm ususally just sitting in heavy traffic. I don't think they should be banned. BUT...hand holding should be...I feel that every new car in the US should be equipped with bluetooth technology on board. Surprising how many are not. My wifes new car has it and its awesome, totally hands free, vioce activated.. It s the way to go. I got kids with phones that drive and I worry about them as inexperinced as it is. If they did not have a phone to their ear I'd feel better.

I disagree. I lived in NY for several years after they passed the headset law. It makes no difference--you see just as many mopes driving 15 under in the left lane while they're chatting away. It's the conversation that distracts drivers, not the act of holding a phone to one's ear. Just for fun, next time you're behind the wheel, hold one of your hands against you ear, with no phone in it, and see how you drive There are people who can't multi-task at all--they can't talk and drive at the same time. I drive with one hand all the time--I learned to drive on a stick and my right hand just rests naturally on the shift. Pilots fly 300 ton planes one-handed. There are hundreds of people I see who drive in a fog because they're wrapped up talking to the person in the passenger seat. They'll actually turn their heads to face the passenger when they talk The hands-free laws are a band-aid on a wound that needs to be stitched. The answer is educating drivers. You get a drivers' license after two months of lessons on city streets, then you're turned loose on the roads There are millions of divers who have no clue how to merge onto a highway, never learned how to parallel park, and once they outgrew the natural caution of a newly licensed driver, operate as if they're the only vehicle on the road. But if anyone proposed re-testing drivers every 5-10 years, they'd get the bum's rush out of office.

Look at it this way--the guy who flies you and your kids to Disney World demonstrated that he's at the top of his game to even get the job in the first place, and he has to re-prove it by getting re-tested every 6 months.

thanks everyone for the well wishes.. the boss lady is a tough old bird, she's in the gym every morning by 5 AM, she lifts for an hour and spends 30 minutes on the stair climber, she probaly would have ripped the dude limb from limb if he could have gotten out of his car....

Funny, through it all she was most P.O.d about loosing her trade in,
the dealership showed good faith in waiving the trade ( realy how much was she going to get for a 14 year old vechicle with 108K on it) but nonethe less, I still feel it was a good jesture on their part...

I agree 100 %
I see way too many drivers on cells that are either driving too sloly, too quickly and in most cases to irradically.

I am glad to hear she's alright.
I had a rollover a year ago last December, and had nothing more than a bruised ego. (Wearing seatbelts and to a certain degree, keeping fit, do make a big difference.)
