Taco Stainless Steel Adjustable Rod Holder

I am looking for feedback on these rod holders. I am planning to buy a couple clamp-on rod holders to clamp onto the 7/8 inch bow rail on my boat.

Any feedback or recommended alternatives appreciated!!!

What kind of boat, are the rod holders for trolling, chunking or storing rods?

I'm no fan of clamp on rodholders, freshwater you might be fine, but if a big fish hits and takes off like a freight train, you better hope your drag is loose and the rod/reel has is somehow attached to the boat.

I have a couple ss camp-ons up near the boat and they are OK and come in handy. You should ALWAYS have a teather from the reel to the boat. The reason I like them is that for bottom fishing you can spread out the lines better. Also They double as a holder when casting up near the bow. I thought about cutting a hole in the gunnel and adding a couple more permennt holders but I didn't what to hack up the look of the nice wide gunnel. The in deck would be stronger no question but for flukin or drifting eels for bass it works great. (esp with baitrunner reels). Don't use them for trolling or anything that puts a hell of a load on it though.

BTW, if you look at the comm bass guys boats...they have a TON of clamp ons. The cast out eels in every directon and drift, fishing 8 or more rods.

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up buying the C. E. Smith adjustable stainless holders. They appear to be very well made (time will tell) and have 10 degree adjustments versus 18 degree adjustments. I'll put them on the boat next week when it goes in.

It's going to be so nice to get back on the water!

Up in the bow I would rather see flush mount in the gunnels. I've seen a 4 hour old $200 setup take a dump in one of those...

yea definitely. I'll use them mostly for convenience after netting the fish when bottom fishing for fluke and blackfish. Any serious work will certainly be in the gunnel mounts.
