Weird evening

My season has gotten off to a slow start, as I was slow to replace my leaking waders. Have been limited to a coulple brief wet-wading experiences at the river mouth and a couple nights at the ditch, I was exited to get home from work and find out the fed ex guy came. New waders, check. Fit fine. Opened up the package that should have had my new splash top and.... it's a pair of docker type pants, not even my size. Completely screwed up my order. Oh well, the waders were the bigger deal anyways, so I grabbed the clammy walmart rain jacket that got me through last year and headed out the door. With an 8:30 low, I had about 2 hours to get out to the tip of a rocky place before an incoming tide and darkness would chase me out. I had an Afterhours Slider on that I got at the RISAA show. I spent a few minutes talking with Don, and he told me to get out to Cutty, which I plan to do this year. All his stuff was so nice that I couldn't decide what to get when he suggested the slider.
So on about the tenth cast, a nice fish completely comes out of the water to hit this thing, and he missed, (or I yanked...). Now my blood is pumping. Same cast, I'm getting it in to shore and I snag a pot. To deep, can't wade out but the friggin thing is only like 30 feet away. I dug out a chartruese and white smillin bill jig with a rusted out eye and tied it on, not even bothering to clip the tag. I tried to snag the Slider a couple times, not being sure what I was going to do if I succeeded. Hooks don't usually free themselves from ropes. Tired of this I whipped the jig out as far as I could and fished it... caught a fat 15 pounder.

Nice fish, sorry about the plug though ... the same thing happened to me last fall fishing with Big Fish, I cast the lure out and my line somehow got snagged (I actually don't remember the specifics) and the plug was bobbing in one place ... couldn't hit it, although it was further out than 30 feet ... had to leave a nice Afterhours yellow pencil popper in that spot ... not sure if Big Fish ever went back for it, but it wasn't going anywhere at the time ..
